We used to receive questions from customers that they asked what is the best batch size when we are using bulk insert process against a column store index table. In this post I would like to share with you a recomendation about it. The recomendation about in columnstore index is more than 102400 rows as you could see in this article - Columnstore indexes: Overview - SQL Server | Microsoft Learn When you are adding less than this number the information will go to the DeltaStore and after it will be updated the to the ColumnStore Index partitions using a backgroung process. However, using more than this number 102,400 this information will save…

Today, we received a service request where our customer got a performance issue reading 20 millions of rows in a temporal report in PowerBI. They provided to their final users multiple ways to filter, for example, grouping or sorting by different columns) using a subset of this data. Based on this definition that the customer is using a temporary table to manage this subset of data, we suggested to create a columnstore index for this temporal table trying to achive the performance SLA with their users and reduce space and memory usage in Azure SQL Databases. ----------------------------------------------------------- -- Create a table for bulk insert p…

I often get the question from customers who are using Azure Data Explorer (ADX) as an analytical back end for their solution "What is your guidance on how to leverage ADX in a multi-tenant architecture"? We recently released a new documentation article titled How to architect a multi-tenant solution with Azure Data Explorer answering that very question! This topic is quite rich. For a lot of customer solutions, having an ADX cluster per end-customer doesn't make sense from a cost and management perspective, but packing multiple end-customers (or tenants) within a cluster opens up a lot of questions about security, performance isolation, manageabilit…

This blog post has been co-authored by Microsoft and Jason Williams from NGINX. Kubernetes adoption is growing rapidly as organizations realize its benefits of deploying, running, and managing containerized applications and workloads at scale. However, organizations might face challenges with security, reliability, observability, and scalability in their Kubernetes environments: Service interruptions in scalable, dynamic environments due to connection timeouts and errors. Increased risk of exposure to cybersecurity threats due to insufficient protection across distributed environments. Outages and troubleshooting complexity due to insufficient visibility i…

While utilizing Cognitive Services, it's important to understand that each resource comes with a pre-configured static call rate measured in transactions per second (TPS). This call rate acts as a limit on the number of concurrent requests that clients can initiate towards the backend service within a specified time frame. By limiting the number of concurrent calls for the customers, the service provider can allocate resources efficiently and maintain the overall stability, reliability service. This also plays a role in the security aspect of the service, so the service itself can protect customers from malicious behavior attacking their service Additionally, this call ra…

For Azure log alert notification action using logic app, we have read numerous articles. But I notice that most of them are either very brief or don't go into great detail about all the nuances, tips, or tricks. I therefore wanted to write one with as much detail as I could and some fresh additional strategies. I hope this aids in developing the logic and putting it into practise. So let's get going. We already know that creating the Alert rule and choosing the logic app as the action are necessary. Additionally, the Logic app's alert notification trigger for when an HTTP request is received. So let's construct one. We can use the below sample…

Service Bus and SAP built-in connectors in Logic App Standard contain many triggers and actions that were previously restricted to stateless Logic Apps only. Beginning in April, these triggers and actions are now available for use in stateful Logic Apps. This article explains the requirements needed to successfully use this new feature. Some Service Bus and SAP built-in connector triggers and actions were not previously enabled in stateful workflows as they required triggers and/or actions to be performed by the same instance. This was done by default in stateless workflows but was far from guaranteed in stateful workflows previously. With the update in April, we h…

The Java Engineering Group (JEG) optimized the Microsoft Build of OpenJDK for Azure's first Ampere Altra Arm-based VM families as an essential part of this launch. The Ampere Altra CPUs are based on Arm’s Neoverse N1 architecture. Hence, JEG focused the optimizations to take advantage of Arm Neoverse N1-specific CPU features like a variety of cryptographic algorithms, Large System Extension (LSE) to improve scalability on large server systems, and the entire physical core per vCPU. This helped ensure we could maximize the scaling factor for Java Virtual Machine (JVM) based applications and take advantage of other optimizations. Test Metrics and Goals The Azure…
