My company is a Microsoft partner, and I've recently deployed our 2 Windows Server 2008 MAPS licenses on two new machines I've built. The new OS seems to rock like crazy, and I'm interested in Windows Vista "Workstation" (a la a pared down version of Server 2008). I want it to do very little actual "server" tasks, preferring rather to have simply a nice, stable, fast OS for my laptop to run Visual Studio, SQL Server and some other apps we have in house. XP is alright, but I'd like to get up into the Vista kernel, but don't like the actual versions of Vista that are available. Windows Server 2008 Standard costs too much for my company to justify the expense. Windows …

Hey all, I have upgraded my domain from 2000 to 2008. Everything went well except out XP clients are starting to spew userenv 1030, 1058 errors. Vista clients don't seem to have this problem. I have combed the net and tried MANY different fixes. None have worked so far. The error points to "the system cannot find the path specified". What is very interesting is that when I browse to either \\DC\Sysvol or \\domain\Sysvol nothing shows up, but only in the xp clients. everything is there in the vista clients. Any hints?? Thanks, Dylan

Hi all, I have a question of how to disable the option of inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects in Folder properties->Security tab->Advanced button->Permissions tab. In my environment, on that folder the NTFS permissions are set to full control to particular users so that they can manage other users access on the folder, while the share permissions for that folder are set to everyone full control. when theses security settings are applied, users connected to that share are able to change the option of Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. But when I modify the share permission…
