Hi, I could not find my original post to add this fix so i have started it here, If the new service pack update reduces the size of your pages and icons, this is simply because the update has returned your display settings to default, to fix this 1, right click on your desktop 2, select personalise 3, select display settings 4, move the resolution slider to the desired setting 5, Press apply 6, Press OK my setting should have been set 1024 by 768. I did not do this fix i was helped by my daughter, so i apoligise but this is all the info i have. -- wallnutwhip

I have an application (faxing) that captures the printing thru the standard LPR/LPD protocol. It works find when send from Linux based servers but not well with the Windows print queues. I need to redirect the "raw" data stream from a shared Windows printer (\ \PC1\prtfax) out to an IP address (\\192.168.1.1\fax) without having a Windows printer driver "formatting" the data. How can I do this?

We recently had some issues with installing updates that were resolved by reassigning the "Manage auditing and security log" user right to administrators. The problem is that the organization I supports requires strict separation of duties between administrators and security managers, and we need to prevent administrators from tampering with auditing or security logs. Is there a reason that this user right is specifically needed to install Windows Updates? Is there a workaround? If not, can Microsoft consider changing a future version of automatic updates to not require this particular user right? Thanks. -- Jeffrey Harris, MCSE W2K and W2K3. …

Hi, A customers VISTA Laptop has failed to install Windows Search V4, the problem now is that the V3 no longer works - although the service will not start the fact it tries to start slows the system performance down immensely, setting the service to DISABLED corrects this particular issue and the system performs correctly. However what I would really like to do is to re-install Windows Search 3 and attempt to upgrade to V4 again, how is it possible to re-install the V 3 ? that is the real question. Look forward to your responses. Thanks

Hi, I've developed a test web application that will use an AzMan store to control security. The store is currently on my XP box and the application is developed in VS2008 using C# and .NET 2.0. The application works fine from the IDE but when I publish it to the localhost and try to run that version I get an error: Insufficient access rights to perform the operation. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80072098) this is when I call the line: AzManStore.Initialize(0, ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[PolicyStoreConnectionString].ConnectionString, null) Reading arround I see that this error could come from having the app and store on different domai…

System: Vista home premium, SP1 with latest updates and patches. The system is not able to detect USB devices compatible with Vista. It asks to install the driver which obviously is not needed for Vista. Any help would be appreciated. I did find a hotfix KB940199 which seems to be pre SP1 so I am unable to install it. Any updated fixes for this issue? Thanks in advance...
