Hello, Not sure if this got answered or not but here goes from a non pro. I had this problem and fought with it for 6 hours. Finally, after reading a lot of the posts, I went to the microsoft express download site and wrote down all the download names. KB905474,KB110806,KB954154,ETC. then instead of trying to get the microsoft system to download all 11 critical updates, i just typed in each individual download name and downloaded it. I rebooted each time and it all got downloaded. The crux of the SOLUTION is to go to the firewall/proxy settings and type in the following exactly, http://*.update.microsoft.com and add it to your site. Additional …

Hi, I am running Windows XP Professional on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. Everything was running fine when I noticed that from a few days, my HDD spins down automatically every couple of minutes or less! I can hear the distinct sound, and can verify that from the load cycle count increase. My laptop is always plugged in. I checked that my power settings through Windows and Dell Quickset were both fine -- none allowed the Hard Drive to power down by itself in any state. The drive is not being overheated or anything, it just spins down and then starts back up immediately. I would like to disable this unreasonably frequent spin-down as it's useless and is wast…
