Ed Bott from ZDNet has outlined five things that Steve Ballmer wouldn’t tell about Windows 7 and they are: 1. “Some of you are going to hate our new OS, no matter what we do.†– I agree on this and there would always be detractors no matter what. Who cares? Microsoft is still going to [...] More...

We believe IE8 helps make browsing the web faster, easier, safer and more reliable. To help our users be more secure and up-to-date, we will distribute IE8 via Automatic Update (AU) and the Windows Update (WU) and Microsoft Update (MU) sites much like we did for IE7. We know that in a corporate environment, the IT organization will often want to delay the introduction of a new browser until they have tested compatibility with internal applications and sites. We’ve done a lot of work in IE8 to maintain compatibility with sites designed for Internet Explorer 7, for example compatibility view and the compatibility meta tag. However we know many IT organizations will stil…

Hi, I have 2 DCs that are running Windows 2000 Server. Both have Windows Server SP4 and one has Exchange 2000 SP3 running on it. The one that has Exchange holds the schema FSMO role. I added a 3rd server to the domain running Windows Server 2008 as a member server and I wanted to make it a DC, so I tried running adprep/forestprep command on the server that is running Exchange and received this error: Adprep was unable to extend the schema. [status/Consequence] There is a schema conflict with Exchange 2000. The schema is not upgraded. [user Action] The schema conflict must be resolved before running adprep. Resolve the schema conflict, allow the change to replic…

I have a requirement to set up a firewall rule, so that all access to the internet is forced via a VPN connection, such that it goes via a managed proxy. I'm struggling to work of the settings for this! Can someone point me in the right direction please? To elaborate further: A home PC with a broadband connection. Set up a firewall rule, so that all networking establishes an IPSEC connection to a VPN server, after which all HTTP and HTTPS traffic is directed via a proxy server on the network into which the VPN connects. There must be no way to disconnect the VPN and gain 'direct' access to the internet. Thanks in antici Martin.

  22. We've been seeing rumors of all sorts start to wash up before CES, and now it's time for Microsoft's Steve Ballmer to join the fray. As part of his keynote speech, the Microsoft CEO will reportedly announce the public availability of the new Windows 7 OS beta. While the new OS has been leaked on less than legal sites for months now, we'll finally be seeing the go-ahead for the public from Microsoft. In addition to the Windows 7 beta launch, Microsoft will apparently be unveiling a new system designed to make networking home PCs significantly easier for the end user. This is definitely important for Microsoft to get a handle on, since 2008 has seen them move into th…
