We’ve previously blogged about Compatibility View this post is a follow-up on compatibility and Internet Explorer 8 RC1. As you are browsing the web with Internet Explorer 8 RC1, you might come across some web sites where everything is not displayed correctly: These issues can be fixed by clicking on the Compatibility View button on the address bar: This button draws the page the same way that Internet Explorer 7 would - allowing content designed for older web browsers to still work well in Internet Explorer 8. By default, Internet Explorer 8 displays a site using its most standards compliant mechanism. In the majority of cases, this works out just f…

I have a network with servers and desktops that I want to put on one vlan segment, and laptops on a seperate vlan. I have seperate security zones on the router for laptops and desktops. Laptops are used with full admin rights, so my concern is a laptop infecting the rest of the network. I would like to open ports between the 2 security zones for file sharing, exchange email, antivirus updates, etc. My question is, if I open ports for these functions, am I defeating the purpose of segregating my networks.

After MS Defender update, it cleared spyware(that Nod 32 left unnoticed) ,but then dsl modem stopped working and cannot be uninstalled(reinstalled again, because uninstall utility says it is already uninstalled although it is there). Restoring to some point before Defender update when modem was ok and comparing with the registry copy after the Defender intervention(with which tool?) would allow to remove manually the spyware key from reg and keep the modem, provided the sys restore also restored some system files that Defender possibly (accidentally) deleted. What chance is the spyware will not be working without its key and how about some other suggestions ho…
