Hi, We're in the process of setting up two Windows Server 2008 machines, one to be a web server and the other an SQL Server. Having enabled auditing on the machines, the SQL Server is continually logging events such as that below, at the rate of around 40 every 10 seconds. The process ID referred to is the DCOM Launcher (svchost.exe -k DcomLaunch). Is there any way to discover why so many events are being generated and, ideally, stop them being generated? Thanks, Adam Sample event: A handle to an object was requested. Subject: Security ID: SYSTEM Account Name: MACHINE$ Account Domain: FOOBAR Logon ID: 0x3e7 Object: Object Server: P…

Hi everyone, I'm trying to do a clean install of a Windows 2008 Server Standard but I'm having a problem that I have not found on the net yet, so I'll try to explain here. I cannot drop any screenshots since I'm installing the new server on 3 HD's Raid5 in the same case as the one running a Win2003 server now. So I won't be able to try some manoeuvers too. Problem: The installation worked (RAID5), installed NIC driver and being able to connect to internet without problems. I installed the AD function and was trying to install the DNS server with dcpromo.exe. With our without 'the Advanced settings option', I can: - create new domain in new forest - type…

Internet Explorer is releasing an out-of-band update available via Windows Update. Alternatively, you can receive this and all other Microsoft updates via the new Microsoft Update. The security update addresses the vulnerability by modifying the way Internet Explorer validates data binding parameters and handles the error resulting in the exploitable condition.
