Mixed-lingual or code-mixed text occurs when speakers or writers mix languages within a single sentence or phrase. As a result of advancements in technology, communication, and transportation that connect the world more than ever before, code-mixed text has become prevalent in modern news, web articles, tweets, and messages. For instance, “Spread Your Wings, It's Late en My Melancholy Blues sluiten deze laatste BBC sessie af.” is a typical example of English-Dutch code-mixed sentences. Accurately reading such mixed-lingual text poses a significant challenge for text-to-speech (TTS) systems. The challenge varies across languages. For non-alphabetic languages like Ch…

Exploring Elements of Technology Inherited from the Past
by Guest RieMoriguchi- 0 replies

Digging into history may reveal unexpected discoveries that affect the present. Even if they are "older” and are no longer used as front line, there are many cases where philosophies of them can be seen in those that are widely used today. Ukrainian Developer Technologies MVP Andrey Gubskiy shows us one example of that. Andrey found two programming languages which were used for the Singularity operating system, Sing# and Spec#, that still have the impact on C# and .NET. He explains that these languages come from the “parallel realities” and shared his research results on his blog, The C# Multiverse — the Singularity of Programming Languages. “Many of the…

In-place encryption with the Sqlserver PowerShell Module
by Guest PieterVanhove- 0 replies

Always Encrypted with secure enclaves supports in-place cryptographic operations on database columns inside a secure enclave in SQL Server and Azure SQL Database. In-place encryption eliminates the need to move the data for cryptographic operations outside of the database, making such operations secure, faster and more reliable. Currently, customers can trigger in-place encryption using T-SQL. PowerShell did not leverage in-place-encryption. Instead, our SQL tools had to load the data on the client-side to perform cryptographic operations. Until now! The release of SqlServer PowerShell Module 22 enables our customers to take advantage of in-place encryption f…

Every organization strives to reduce the attack surface of their infrastructure to make it secure and reliable. As team members of the Microsoft Global Compromise Recovery Security Practice (CRSP), we’ve seen time and time again that by improving the security posture to make compromise more difficult than average, low-skill attackers usually give up quickly and move to the next target. With the changing cybersecurity landscapes, Identity is the new security perimeter and we often hear that a compromised user was the cause of a catastrophic cyber-attack. While talking about identities, Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), part of the Microsoft E…

MIME types describe the media type of content, either in email, or served by web servers or web applications. They are intended to help provide a hint as to how the content should be processed and displayed. Examples of MIME types: text/html for HTML documents. text/plain for plain text. text/css for Cascading Style Sheets. text/javascript for JavaScript files. text/markdown for Markdown files. application/octet-stream for binary files where user action is expected.
