Here are some details on the Windows 7 build 7025 that leaked this past weekend. There has been little talk of Windows 7 builds after the leak and public release of the first beta build (7000) earlier this month, but Microsoft has definitely been busy. What many seem to overlook is that build 7000 was compiled on December 12, 2008, at 2:00PM. Since then, there have been many other builds compiled, including 7003, 7004, 7012, 7015, 7016, and 7025. The last one, which leaked over the weekend (though it is much harder to find than 7000), has the following build string number: "7025.0.x86fre.winmain.090120-1850," meaning it was compiled on January 20, 2009, at 6:50PM. That…

Microsoft submits thousands more CSS 2.1 tests to the W3C

The Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate is the last major IE8 testing milestone. It indicates that we believe that IE8 is implementation complete for CSS 2.1. We also believe IE8 RC1 has the most complete implementation of the CSS 2.1 specification in the industry. The only way to know if a browser has correctly implemented a specification is to develop a comprehensive set of tests for the specification. These can be used to determine both the support for a specific part of the spec and the behavior of a specific browser. Web developers can also use these test pages as examples of how to combine various layout properties and elements in their pages and know that thei…

IE8 Security Part VII: ClickJacking Defenses
by Guest NewsBot- 0 replies

As we planned Internet Explorer 8, our security teams analyzed the common attacks in the wild and the trends that suggest where attackers will be focusing their attention next. Over the course of IE8’s development, we’ve also worked closely with those in the security research community to stay on top of new classes of threats. One of the most subtle and interesting web application security vulnerabilities is called Cross Site Request Forgery (CSRF) security researcher Jeremiah Grossman calls CSRF “the sleeping giant†of web vulnerabilities. As Jeremiah notes, preventing CSRF attacks is hard because there’s generally no easy fix. The architectural underpinnings of…

Microsoft on Friday announced that it has extended the general public availability of its Windows 7 Beta yet again, with a new final date of Feb. 9 to get it. The deadline doesn't apply to Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) and Microsoft TechNet Plus subscribers. For those who partially downloaded the beta, Feb. 11 is the last day to complete that download. Those who don't have product keys will still be able to get them, even after Feb. 11, according to Microsoft's announcement. Without the product key, the beta will work but it then will expire after just 30 days. Microsoft plans to end the Windows 7 Beta on Aug. 1, and a release candidate version is expected…

Well and to John... A computer and its OS is paid for, don't forget. And a computer as far as I can remember back to when the ping pong came out and which I got at the time and comps ever since... is something we like to adjust, tweak to our use. NOT HAVING TO LISTEN TO ONE PARTICULAR SOUND BECAUSE YOU GUYS THOUGHT HEY.. WE DECIDED SO... so an example would be altering the login sound? I mean, you got 3rd party easily changing the internal resources in imageres.dll for example.. I REALLY would like an easier way to edit it and to save it.. cheesh. by Guest NewsBot- 0 replies

Hello all, Just like for previous beta releases, I am going to guide you through the upgrade steps for Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1 (IE8 RC1). Before we begin, let me summarize the major changes you will see when installing IE8 RC1: If you are a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 user and you are upgrading from IE8 Beta 1 or Beta 2 to IE8 RC1, you are no longer required to manually uninstall earlier IE8 builds. Instead, IE8 RC1 installer will automatically upgrade your machine from the earlier IE8 builds to the latest IE8 build, all with a single reboot. There is a new pre-requisite for IE8 RC1 (KB957388). This update supersedes KB943302 and KB957055…
