Hi, I am trying to learn AD and Server 2008 features using a VHD... I can't quite figure out how to make it so users of computers logged into the server have admin rights locally (by using group policy). I have seen tutorials on using restricted groups, but there is not a restricted group under computer configuration > windows settings > security Do I just add it or is there something I am missing?

This is a very good read over at E7 blog. It lays out just what to expect in the coming months with Windows 7. As many have speculated there will only be one official beta release, build 7000, which was available to everyone on Jan. 7. The next release of Windows 7 will be the release candidate (RC). Then on to RTM. Speculation is Windows 7 RC will be available in the middle of April. Here is an excerpt of the blog post. You can read the full post at Engineering Windows 7 Blog.

access to shares in a workgroup
by Guest Special Access- 0 replies
This is a question on Vista Business. There is a workgroup with 4 workstations (1, 2, 3, 4) and 4 is sharing a folder. 1 & 2 can access that drive by simply mapping to the share, no name/password is required. When you try to get 3 to map, you are asked to provide credentials. Since the other computers can access the share properly, I would think the problem is on 3. There is a limit of 10 users on the share, and since 2 are connecting, I'm (I hate to use this word) assuming the permissions for the share are correct. I looked at the local security settings on all the workstations, they all seem to be set the same. Ideas? Pointers to where I'm scr…

hello, i'm trying to implement a SCEP client library for the use of my company. I've read the scep draft and the rfc's related to the topic, then tried to use xenroll.dll (i'm using windows xp) to create a pkcs#10 message, but the CA's don't seem to recognize it (testing against a Cisco IOS CA and a Windows Server 2003 Standard CA with the MSCEP addon). Then i tried to envelope this message with the EnvelopedCms (System.Security.Cryptography.Pkcs.EnvelopedCMS) to make a pcks#7 envelope around it, but i couldn't found how to add the necesary authenticated attributes. I then tried many other thins (even a openSSL wrapper) but can't find the way to make this wor…
