Task Scheduler 0x80 on Windows 2000
by Guest Paul- 0 replies

Hi, We have problems with scheduled tasks failing on windows 2000. A reboot solves this but we cannot get to the bottom of the problem. It's Sp4 and there's no Human Interface Devices service. I've tried making jobs with the AT command, assigning runas service and bath permissions and pretty much worked through a lot of search results. It seems to be about every 7 days it fails. Can anyone shed light on this? There is nothing in event logs (app and system). Task log attached, job names aren't actually xxxxxxxxxx lol. "xxxxxxxxxx.job" (runxxxxx.bat) Started 06/10/2008 23:45:00 "xxxxxxxxx.job" (runxxxxx.bat) Finished 06/10/2008 23:49:14 Result: T…

If you are reading this article then you have probably come to the point where your computer has started to show declined performances and possibly become less functional. Unfortunately this will happen to almost every PC user who uses their computer frequently and changes software and hardware over time. There really is nothing more annoying than having a problematic computer which restricts your ability to work or play games and most of the time these problems arise as a result of registry errors. The registry is a database which stores all important information regarding software and hardware related setting in the form of keys. As time passes and your pc beco…

WMI ADAP errors with DotNet 3.5 - KB951683
by Guest Kieran- 0 replies

Hi, We're experiencing symptom 3, Message 2 in the knowledge base article with some of our servers and were wondering if there's a fix that's going to be released. While the text of the KB advises its going to be in the next service pack, the fix wasn't credited as being in 3.5 SP1 as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951847. Can someone from MS please advise if it is included, but not credited otherwise we'll have to work with MS support to get the hotfix talked about in the original KB article. Cheers, Kieran

I am trying to setup iSCSI initiator on a Windows 2000 Server (SP4). I was able to setup the Targets, and persistant targets. When I try to Bind all in the Bound Volumes/Devices tab all I get is the following: \\?\storage#volume#1&30a . . . . . . . . . When I set up the initiator on a windows 2003 server I am able to see and bind the virtual drive on the target server. Any ideas? Thanks, Michael

Moving Folders
by Guest C.W. Billow- 0 replies
Let's say I have this folder group on my desktop: Top Folder ---->Second Level and in Second Level, I have File.txt, so it's Top Folder ----->First Folder ----------->File.txt Now, I also have another folder on my desktop ----->First Folder ----------->File.txt I wanted to move the second set into Top, overwriting anything there. So I dragged the 2nd First Folder, and dropped it on Top. I get the message asking whether I want to replace files etc., and I answer "Yes, replace everything." It moves File.txt and overwrites the first copy. But it leaves the second "First Folder" now empty, on the desktop. Shouldn't it have…

Re: Saving Folder View Settings - Further

I may have read one too many threads today, but I have not found a solution to: When I run WindowsExplorer (.exe), the My Documents folder is always displayed 'opened' (with all of the subfolders displayed). "Tools/folder options/apply to all folders" seems to apply only to the "view" that is selected, not whether the folder is open or closed! Am I missing something here? (should I re-read a thread or two?) "RobRW" wrote: > Thankyou Ed. That worked. Set the default just as you said and then > customised the individual folders. Settings are now remembered. Vista SP1 breaks networking
by Guest Andrew- 0 replies

After SP1 downloaded as an automatic update, Vista Bus. Ed. became highly unstable and repeatedly dropped the LAN connection to the ADSL router, and only a reboot would bring it back. My support call to Microsoft got a really very unhelpful response, saying that I should do a hardware compatibility check before installing the update. They have to be joking. The fact that it was an automatic update escaped them entirely. I don't think they even read my email - I suspect it was automatically generated from keywords. After hours of messing around trying all sorts of different things, resetting my router, changing the network card, etc, I finally found tha…

Adding a machine to the domain using an alternate token
by Guest Bill The Cat- 0 replies

I work for the Federal Government, and we use alternate tokens for our elevated privilege accounts. Currentlt, we do not know of a way to allow our Level 2 desktop support technicians add a new workstation to the domain without using a username/password combination. The alternate tokens are tied to their elevated accounts and work for typical runas functions, but we can't make it work to add computers to our domain. Any assistance would be great!

This post relates to Remote Desktop Connection, not Terminal Services. If I'm posting in the wrong place, please forgive and point me to a better location. We're a small software shop who has started upgrading dev servers to Win2008. When our people try to connect remotely via a VPN, we get the error message, "Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end. Please try connecting to the remote computer again". We're guessing there's some setting on Windows 2008 itself or on routers that needs to set, but we can't seem to find it. We're stumped.. Additional facts on the problem are below. Any help 'preciated. Thanks in advance. -Billy …

w2k3 Server Home directory duplication
by Guest Sarconastic- 0 replies

I have 2 sites each running Win 2k3 Server with a common active directory using a VPN tunnel on our firewall to connect the two sites. At site one we have an external VPN server setup to allow our remote locations to log in and access Docs etc. At each site we have the users home folders for that site setup up in a data folder at that location. An example is Site 1 User A, B, and C each have a home folder under \\server1\data\A etc - Site 2 User D, E and F, have a home folder under \\server2\data\D etc. We didn't want to sync all the home folders bwteen the sites to save space on our servers. The problem I have is that a half dozen or so users travel back an…

Windows printing architecture

Hi. Can anyone point me to a good source of information that describes the Windows printing architecture in detail, how all the components fit together and interact, and what the interfaces between them are? I'm interested in: - Any libraries an application that prints uses - GDI - The spooler - Print providers - Printer drivers, including universal printer drivers - Port/language monitors - Local vs remote printing - EMF vs XPS I have an article from The Code Project and Brian Madden's guide to Terminal Services printing. Thanks.
