This blog post details a change we’re making to IE8’s first run experience, previously described in other posts here and here. The goal of the IE setup experience is to put IE users in control of their settings and respect existing defaults. IE will never install, or become the default browser without your explicit consent. However, we heard a lot of feedback from a lot of different people and groups and decided to make the user choice of the default browser even more explicit. This change is part of our ongoing commitment to user choice and control. Specifically, users who install IE8 and have another browser set as the default will now see this panel as part …

I copied some jpg pictures to a shared folder on our server recently. They open up fine for me in Windows Picture and Fax viewer. All the other users cannot open them though, The app opens and it says "no preview available". These users have full rights to this directory. In other folders they can open other jpg's just fine. It's only this recent set that I copied over. What the heck could be causing this?

Hello, I am new to WS2008 and I was wondering if anyone could help me with my issue. I have two NIC's installed in my pc. One NIC is connected to a DSL Modem, and the other one is connected to my LAN. The server currently is running a DNS Server and a DHCP Server. I don't want to use ICS, because it messes with my static ip that is set for my NIC. I also have tried the routing guide from windowsnetworking.com without any luck with that. Perhaps I did something, wrong. I don't know. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all the support, King John.

Hi, Can I assume these during a normal Vista Shut down? When the user issues shut down: 1- windows sends shut down message to all desktop processes! 2- programms need not much to do close fast and windows can continue with shut down! 3- a not responding dialog may appear for programms that need to do much and do not interact with windows for 30 seconds 4- a not responding dialo does not appear for programms that do lengthy operaion but through many API calls (thus windows understands that the program is progressing with shut down normally) so Keeps desktop on for them until they exit 5-when I see logging of it means that windows is closing Explorer.exe and…

I have a desktop on which I both Vista and Window 7 installed in a dual boot configuration. I have been able to access which ever OS is running from a laptop over a wireless network for some time with no problem. All of a sudden every time I try and connect with Vista running on the desktop I get an error message that my credentials are not recognized. I can still connect to Windows7 with no problem and the identities and connect parameters are the same for either OS. I also note that I have one of the drives on the desktop Mapped and when I try and access that drive using the same password as for remote access I have no problem. It is really a frustraing sc…

Background As a part of the July security bulletin, Microsoft yesterday released an update to mitigate a vulnerability in the “Microsoft Video†ActiveX control. This control contained a stack-based buffer overflow which could be exploited by a malicious web page. If you haven’t yet done so, please make sure you’ve installed the latest updates from WindowsUpdate to help keep your system secure. The Microsoft Video control should not have been marked as safe because it wasn’t intended for use within the browser. Rather than updating the control itself, Microsoft decided to block misuse of the control via a killbit. Killbits are simple registry flags tha…

I've found a bug in Vista (all versions) but I don't know where to post it in the hope for a hotfix.... here is it in short: iconified floders on the taskbar use a wrong icon for the "current folder": http://g.imagehost.org/0025/Immagine_5.jpg instead of using the correct folder image you're currently in as it should (example: http://f.imagehost.org/0269/Immagine.jpg ). Here is an example shot showing the problem: http://f.imagehost.org/0502/Immagine.jpg This has been reported and confirmed by all peolple I know with very different HW and Vista versions.
