Gurus, Running Windows XP Pro SP3 on a Sony Vaio laptop. The system has been running fine except for one little problem - when I try to use the "Undock Computer" option from the Start Menu nothing happens. Copying Files in Vista Performance Question
by Guest Dave Lee- 0 replies

This question is prompted by two events that I have encountered recently. The first was when I was trying to back up my email from a (Vista Home Premium) Dell Laptop (XPS 1530 (NTFS file system) to a USB-2 attached harddrive (FAT32). I was just trying to do a drag/drop (copy) from a Windows Mail Store to the (FAT32) USB-2 attached harddrive. The total data size was around 500MB. After a couple of minutes the data transfer rate dropped from over 1MB/sec to less than 10% of that and the estimated transfer time ended up at over 24 hours. More recently I wanted to make a local copy of my Windows Live Mail Store (have migrated from Windows Mail) by just doi…

I have been running multiple Microsoft Vista 32-bit SP1 Ultimate laptops (Dell D820/D830/E6500) for some time now on a 2003 SP2 native domain. Within the past week all of a sudden when a batch file is run the Vista machines will freeze and will then go to a blue screen of death with code 0x00000008 0x803D3130 0x00000000 0x00000000 and reboots. Doesn't matter if you are an administrator or domain user. I am inspecting th event log, but haven't found any leads. Any ideas

Vista printer settings return to default each logon
by Guest egv7759- 0 replies

I have a perplexing problem. The scenario... Every morning one particular Vista user (out of approximately 75) has to reset her default printer. Once reset she is fine for the day. She will log off and leave for the day. Later, she will connect to our network via VPN, use Remote Desktop to reach her office PC, and log in. She doesn't try to print since she's working remotely. The following morning (or next time in the office) she will log onto her desktop locally and the default printer will be reset to the first printer in the list. The environment... Vista SP1 on the desktop. Windows Server 2003 SP2 on the server side with all network print…

Solved: Long delay before context menu shows up
by Guest Robert Kochem- 0 replies
Hi newsgroup. The last months I noticed that opening the context menu of shortcuts took sometimes very long (5-10 seconds). I found out fast that this happens only on shortcuts that are broken (the executable the shortcut links to does not exist anymore) - but it only happens on one PC therefore a software (or to be detailed a shell extension) must have been the cause. Investigating a problematic shell extension isn't simple but finally I found today the cause: Using Sysinternals ProcessMonitor i traced the long delay back to a shell extension named "CmdLineExt.dll" (located in the system32 folder). The DLL description named it as "SecuROM context menu for …
