I don’t understand the rationale of Microsoft why they have to give out the features of Windows 7 to Windows Vista particularly the ribbon look and feel. In an update on October, Microsoft is pushing this update to Windows Vista users. This report first came out from istartersomething.com which is written by Long Zheng. According to him Microsoft is providing Windows Vista users the option to install the update that displays the Windows 7 ribbon framework. The ribbon framework is called “Scenic Ribbon†and is a derivation of the ribbon –esque “fluent†user interface which was first seen in the Microsoft [...]Post from: Windows Vista Weblog More...

I realize this thread was a while ago, but I'll add some more information. There is a site that is dedicated to Subsystem for Unix-based Applications (SUA) and SFU. It's sponsored by Microsoft even: www.suacommunity.com 1) The SUA utilities come with gcc/gdb and the ability to use MSVS/MSVC as well (using cc/c89) from the command line environment to build Unix/Linux programs. It's rare to use Visual Studio's IDE but a few people do. You can debug these programs using the Visual Studio debugger or (I think better) WinDbg. 2) There's a FAQ at the SUA Community site on this, but in brief in SFU contained several "components" including one named Interix whi…

What a coincidence, just yesterday I realized there were only positives surrounding Windows 7 and I was wandering when the hate Windows 7 campaign would start. During Vista’s time the hate Windows Vista came much, much earlier which is not the case with Windows 7 as we are only 6 weeks away from launch. Today, I came across the Windows7sins.org which was launched last week by a Boston based Free Software Foundation group describing Windows 7 as “treacherous computing†which take rights away from users. The website launched outlines 7 sins of Windows 7 namely:1. Poisoning education – this is [...]Post from: Windows Vista Weblog More...

I want to Deploy this printer automatically on any client(user) that's on the domain created on the server, when the user logs into his/her account. I created a GPO for this, and in the User Configurations, Logon section, I included the following Script file. I have some Windows XP workstations that I need to remove from a windows 2003 domain and join them to a new Windows 2008 domain. Is there an easy and quick way to keep their existing user profile after I join the workstions to the new domain so their desktop settings, favorites and applications look and work the same? I do not want to use roaming profiles as the servers are in different locations. Can I: 1) join the workstations to the new domain 2) login as the new user (to create a new profile) 3) Copy the users original profile over the newly created profile? or make a copy of the default user profile, copy the original user's profile over the defaul…

Hello On numerous occasions I have manually disabled Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service on my Vista Home Premium machine. It stays 'Disabled' for a while, but eventually I discover that WIA service is running again (and its startup type changed to 'Automatic'). Unfortunately so far I was unable to catch the culprit. I have no idea when exactly it switches from 'Disabled' to 'Automatic'. Does anyone know what/who is responsible for changing the startup type for the service behind my back? Any ideas appreciated. Best regards, Andrey
