Hi, I am an IT Consultant, and am looking to find a good optimization/clean-up program that I can use on my client's machines. Currently, I do all the optimization manually because it seems a lot of the optimization and clean-up programs out there are either not great at doing their job, or aren't transparent in what they do, or potentially cause problems either because they are poorly designed or inundated with spyware/adware/etc. I think the most important feature of an optimization/clean-up program for me would be one where I maintain total control over what it is doing (i.e. it says it wants to do A, B, C, and then I tell it to only do A and C a…

This post follows up on my original Operation Aborted post to provide some additional information and assistance for web site owners or 3rd party script libraries. Recap Nearly a year-and-a-half ago, I blogged about an error that can occur on some websites that generate content via script. This content can cause Internet Explorer’s HTML parser to get into an unrecoverable state, which makes it doubly-hard to find and diagnose why this error is happening. When this state occurs, the HTML parser cannot continue, and simply throws up its hands and admits: “Operation aborted!†Early in IE8’s development, we put in a mitigation that alleviated the worst sid…

This should be really good news for Microsoft because for the longest time since the release of Windows Vista, XP has remained steadfast like a knight guarding it’s castle. Today, the shining armor has been pierced by it’s son Windows Vista and hopefully to be continued by Windows 7. I have previously written an article about whether Microsoft should abandon Vista (Should Microsoft Leave Vista in the Dust?) which briefly says that XP is somehow declining, and another article questioning whether Microsoft should push Windows 7 in 2010 (Should Microsoft Push Windows 7 in 2010?) as Vista is moving forward [...]Post from: Windows Vista Weblog More...

I have to use the power button to do a hard boot to get it to come back up. I don't see anything in the App Event log or System Event log to indicate what might have happened. Any thoughts? -- GFG
