::A mouse is using relative coordinate that cursor’s movement is based on the current cursor position. Mouse does not know what the display orientation is but moves by user’s control. The tablet is a pointing device and is using absolute coordinates that is (0,0) at top left corner and (max_X, -max_Y) at bottom right. Therefore, the cursor goes to wherever the pen is pointing at and ignores the current cursor position. In your case, the primary display is at left and its origin is (0,0). The tablet PC is at right as a secondary display and its origin will be (1024,0). The tablet (input device) is a separate device from the monitor (output device) it is just h…

Hello. We have put all the different sorts of compilers in a network drive on a Windows-based PC, and using them to compile source codes on other machines in the network by directly executing the compilers from the network drive. The advantage is that we don't have to install those many compilers on each and every PC, but the disadvantage is slow compilation. So we are looking for some ways to accelerate it. The drive size is about 180 GB, but I guess relatively small portion of them is frequently used but they are scattered in many directories. Is there any way to let Windows automatically cache most accessed files inside RAM as much as there are free RAM s…

I'd like to know wether or not Vista (in my case Business 64) uses - both processors (both 4 cores) ( I use a 2 processor quad core AMD Opteron 2376 on a TYAN thunder 3600B Mainboard (16Gb RAM ECC/Reg) with a normal loadout of JBOD SATA HDD's and a DVD-RW) (It seems to do so but still, It reports my 8 tasks running as 12 and 13 percent (4 of both, together makes 100 , if this is percentages of total capacity then it's okay)) - level 2 and L3 cache (4x512 and 6144 respectively for both processor-dies ) I know it's on the system (I checked with CPU-Z but it only does a readout of the CPU, not a functionality check) but how do I check it works? I am n…

My office has Acerpower FH computers running XP Pro SP3. There is a lot of proprietary software that is unnecessary and bogs them down at times so I have been uninstalling the Acer programs. When I removed the Security program, I lost all the icons, but all the titles, taskbar, windows are all visible, just the icons have gone away. I've looked at a good deal of help sites and they've said to try "Show Desktop icons", go into the registry and remove the explorer.exe entry in the HKEY_Local_Machine/ SOFTWARE/Microsoft/WondowsNT/... part, but there ius none. Any suggestions? Since it happened after a security program removal, I wonder if its an owne…

Hi all XP SP3/Server 2003 SP1 In an effort to try & reduce the size of my profile I'm working at getting rid of some files. I thought I'd start with the simple stuff. In My Recent Documents on my profile on the c:\documents & Settings\ user name, there are quite literally a couple of thousand short cuts etc. I delete them & if I log off they've gone. If I reboot they return. I have tried removing a smaller folder as a test & that exhibits the same results. If I delete the smaller folder from the profile on the server it stays gone but is still there on the c: drive. What is likely to be wrong here? If I'm experiencing this the rest of the …

Hi, I'm working on preparing a base W2k8 image for a server rollout. Everything was working fine until I cleaned up the image before I took a snap clone of it. All I did was remove my domain user account and one other person's domain user account from the machine so that the user accounts wouldn't appear on the rolled out image. I made sure I went through the correct process of removing users, i.e. under system settings, goto Advanced System settings, the Advanced Tab, the User Profiles Settings, and deleting the 2 user accounts. I didn't touch anything else. I took the snap clone and assumed everything was ok. I then tried to logon to the machine using my do…

This post is a guest post from Steve Guttman, of the Expression Web team. Expression Web has created an interesting tool, SuperPreview, which we thought the IE blog audience would be interested in. Internet Explorer 8 is an important release because it reconfirms Microsoft’s commitment to interoperability and renewed emphasis on Web Standards. My team—which develops the authoring tool, Expression Web—is also pretty emphatic about Web Standards. We’re in the process of doing significant tooling (and retooling) so we can support existing and emerging specifications, reliably. The Expression Web team recently shipped SuperPreview for Internet Explorer, a…
