Should Microsoft Leave Vista in the Dust?
by Guest NewsBot- 0 replies
Microsoft has some very important decisions to make in the coming months on their Windows strategy. They are bound to release Windows 7 in October and pushing this operating system much earlier is the slow adoption of Windows Vista and the continous usage of Windows XP. However a lot of factors have contributed to this state which includes the economic crisis, massive bugs in Vista in the early months, the negative publicity that could not be overturned, the rise of netbooks in the market. In short, I think Microsoft Windows Vista release was just bad timing and things could have [...]Post from: Windows Vista Weblog More...

Should Microsoft Push Windows 7 in 2010?
by Guest NewsBot- 0 replies
I have just written an article on whether Microsoft should leave Windows Vista in the dust or not. The key point is that Windows Vista is picking up steam right now while Windows XP’s adoption is falling behind. It could be noted that Windows 7 was pushed much earlier because users wouldn’t want to move out of Windows XP and Microsoft’s million dollar marketing campaign could not change the negative image of the operating system.Releasing a new operating system under the name of Windows 7 was the best option available. Now that Windows Vista is getting traction, should Microsoft wait [...]Post from: Windows Vista Weblog More...

A lot of users love the zooming of the page in Internet explorer to see the content better. Ok, we do this during development in our Windows Vista, but other than that I really hate accidentally zooming in and out the page content in Internet explorer.

by Guest NewsBot- 0 replies

I came across an article which says that Apple had the biggest chance of increasing their market share when Vista was released. Apple’s share did increase but was still hovering over the 10 percent market share catering to high-end individuals. But in this economy, high end-buyers are also looking into cutting down expenses and Apple should have capitalized on that. While their philosophy had always been on high profit margins, mass sales could have been a vertical market they could have tried. I believe that Apple had a golden opportunity to trump Microsoft for the last three years. The software [...]Post from: Windows Vista Weblog More...

If you are the person who must sign a waver or otherwise certify that the system is without malware. Yes. The tech then backs up whatever documents or data that hasn't already been backed up. Then the tech rebuilds the system to the agreed upon security specification. Keep in mind that some folks may be held to unheard of high security standards where "flatten & rebuild" is the minimum acceptable security/business practice. In…

Windows XP Places Bar View Does Not Stick
by Guest Nick De Lancie- 0 replies
I have had a customized Windows XP Places Bar (common open/save/save as dialog box) with some direct paths and some of the built-in folders for a long time. I have set and from time to time changed the places with either direct registry edits to the comdlg32/placesbar key or through TweakUI. I have had no problems with any of this until just recently when the view for two of the places reverted to the large icon (thumbnails) view, though the view stays details (my preferred view) for the other Places Bar shortcuts. I cannot find any place to set the Places Bar view for each of the 5 possbile places (unlike the Office Places Bar, which can have individual …

Local profiles migrated to domain problem
by Guest JonathanL- 0 replies
I've run into a problem migrating local profiles to domain profiles. I'm doing it by what I consider the standard way. In System Properties, Advanced Tab, User Profiles section. I select the local profile and tell it to copy over the domain profile (created by logging on and off one time). Things seem to copy okay but when the user then logs in with their domain account, the theme looks like a "classic" ala 2000 scheme and the left side of the Start Menu is completely blank. Also, users cannot even add networked printers. The user accounts (both local and domain) are NON-admin accounts and that's how they need to be. If I give the domain account admin righ…

I'm a bit dismayed. Created a backup schedule and set it to write to my SAN. Instead of creating a .bkf file, it wiped my disks. Running a partition recovery but users are temporarily unable to access the SAN. I have uninstalled the backup out of fear it will try again to reformat my SAN. Is it possible to setup the backup to run without it first formatting the disk? -- Regards, Jamie
