Hello, We are using Windows Server 2008 with Terminal Services role installed. We are also have thin clients in our company. Is there any way we can change default profile picture which is shown when waiting for user to login? I have changed somethere in GPO the settings for picture, but it is shown only when any user logs in or locks up the session. After user logs off the blank (blue screen with glass frame with no picture inside) is shown. Thanks, Nerijus

I have found what I term a questionable file: C:\\ProgramFiles\hewlett-packard\sdp\ceement\HPCEE.exe, related to C:\\Windows\tasks\HPCeeScheduleforkaryn.job. On 9-15-09 Windows Defender flagged this for potentially unwanted behavior. On 10-01, this program, HPCEE.exe was "preparing to access the internet" according to Norton history. On 10-13, I happened to be looking at Task Scheduler Library. I found a scheduled task triggered by time: 6:02 PM 10-15-09 last run: never author of task: me purpose: open a program: C:\\ProgramFiles\hewlett-packard\sdp\ceement\HPCee.exe. This task was scheduled to run every 6 days for the next 30 days. I suspected a virus or…

when system is idle my disk is constantly being accessed. there is no network traffic however so i don't think it's spyware. i've made a process monitor log file, i'd appreciate if anyone can take a look and help me resolve this issue. what i've noticed from the log file is that the system constantly accesses the DHCP registry entries in the same way and repeats it forever. you can see the log file here http://www.mediafire.com/?guwkmmmnnrk

Have Vista sp 2, 32 bit with Norton 360. Norton's recent history page shows SearchFilterHost.exe preparing to access the internet 25 times yesterday. What is this? I have looked around on this topic via Google and found that most complaints about this program (or service), whatever it is, are about it using lots of cpu's. That's not my problem, but incessant accessing the internet. I can't find the destination address. One post here from 2007 calls it, "phoning home to Microsoft". I doubt that's it either. At the time, I was downloading and editing some new pictures. Somewhere I read that this might have something to do with .jpeg files. On si…

When I go to the control panel and click on add/remove, I get the following notice: Windows/system32/rundll32.exe...Application not found. This same message comes up on several items in the control panel, but not all. Also when I use the run command and enter "explorer or msconfig or regedit" I get an open with box. There seems to be no link to any of the normal run items. Can anyone advise Bob S.

Somebody came in with a laptop that had a shared network connection and for some reason some local stations picked up on it for their internet rather than the regular route. I have a bunch of stations in an office and a server. The router gives dhcp and points back to the server for dns. Stations are set to get addresses dynamically (though the router associates addresses with mac addresses so they're always the same). A laptop that was brought in had a wireless connection that had been shared. It ended up picking up the wireless guest internet connection but was also plugged in and connected to the in-house net. When a workstation was fired up it got its address…

I am trying to run eventvwr under Vista Home Premium Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002. Eventvwr starts up and a pop up window shows that a snap-in is being added to the console (although it does not say what the name of the add-in is). Then eventvwr loads and I can see the overview and summary listing. When I go to the event viewer local panel (left side of screen) and expand the Applications and services log, then click on MSFT office diagnostics, I get an error: "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and is closing" It gives me two options: "report the error to MSFT then shut down MMC" and "Unload the snap-in and continue running" …

Ever since the most recent batch of updates, my XP Pro workstations keep wanting to reinstall the September Root Certificates update. This behavior is not happening on my Vista boxes. I've searched around on the net for information on this issue, but haven't had much luck. We're running SBS2008 PremiumSP2, WSUS version 3.2.7600.226. The workstations are XP Pro SP3. All other updates have been installing correctly as scheduled. I suspect that this update was installed successfully as well, but either hasn't recorded the 'is-installed' status correctly, or the WSUS isn't looking in the right place to check the 'is-installed' setting. I've tried installing t…

4 windows server 2003 (no R2) domain controllers 2 sites 2 DCs at each site. 1 DC in each site uses FRS to replicate folders (user documents mainly) over the WAN between sites. Approximately 50 GB of data. 200000 files in 12 replicated folders. A few weeks ago, the administrator noticed problem with replication. He said new files were replicated OK, and older modified files not. Unaware of the consequences, he followed the advice in one of the event viewer error messages details on one of the DCs ….. net stop ntfrs (rd /s /q c:\windows\ntfrs\jet net start ntfrs …. Replication restarted, several NTRFS_Preexisted directories appeared, a lot…
