Hi, In trying to resolve my computer being so slow on startup I download and ran "Process Explorer" and noticed that about 2 minutes after I start my computer there is a process "SVCHOST" running that uses about 50% CPU. The services under that process is "DcomLaunch" and "PlugPlay". What are these services and why are they eating up so much CPU time? Your help would be appreciated. Thanks, Phil -- Phil

I've completed the File and Settings Transfer process, following the wizard and a network drive, and apparently successfully, but the target computer did not have the contents of the My Documents folder of the original PC. The folders are there, but with a pair of circular arrows attached to the icons but with no contents. I copied the contents of My Documents manually, but they appear only when I navigate to My Documents from the C: drive - not from the link at the top of Windows Explorer. Has anyone any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance. -- PeterM

I am running a brand new Sony Vaio laptop with Vista preinstalled. I am trying to connect to Virgin Internet via a Samsung CDMA mobile phone on USB port. Everything goes well, the cellphone screen shows that a connection is being made and the login and password are entered. At this point, the connection gets adruptly disconnected. Windows displays a three option help screen. When I click on Diagnose, I get a message saying everything is OK. In principle, the problem lies with the password input. I have checked and re-input the password several times but cannot see where the problem lies. I get the same behaviour with another cellphone and a Reliance…

Converting from application-specific formats ..Some file formats are specific to particular Windows-only applications, and so cannot be used with Ubuntu software I'll stick with Windows. Ubuntu seems like a pile of garbage dismissed by most because it doesn't run any popular software or deal with the popular file formats that 99.999999% of the people use. No wonder why they can't give Ubuntu away.

Sure. Try that INFERIOR Ubuntu for a couple of days. Once you load it on your PC, just like millions before you, you will realize that Ubuntu doesn't run any of the popular software programs out there and that makes Ubuntu worthless. You will then need to wipe Ubuntu off your PC and install Windows and Windows programs to do any real work. Ubuntu has been free for years, yet most reject Ubuntu as just a TOY OS written by geeks for geeks who can't get laid. Simple as that. By the way, take a look at the spinning cube. That is Ubuntu's claim to fame.

I got help elsewhere and this cured the Error But thanks to everyone who sent their Suggestions ===The CURE FOLLOWS Your most likely issue is corrupted Windows registry entries for all your drives listed as Generic Volume. You can fix that issue by opening the Device Manager. In Device Manager > (View Hidden Devices option selected) > Storage Volumes >> Generic Volume. To fix the problem all I had to do was right click on each generic volume and select Uninstall. Then reboot 2 times for the Generic Volumes to be redetected. This should fix your issue.

I had an M1000 modem from qwest before and my server worked just fine and remote acess was not a problem. I used the prior modem simply as a passthrough, however, I can't do that now because when I try it brings my 20mb conn down to 3mb.... So, when I try using the POS Qwest Actiontec Q1000 modem, It absolutely refuses to correctly forward the ports.... I set it up and nothing happens, instead when i acess my remote site through the web it gives me the prompt as logging in the Q1000 modem... Its complete instanity. I have upgraded the firmware and have tried disablign uPnP as some websites said, but that didn't work....Any ideas? View this thread

Hi guys. I got here 2 computers at my hands - one is running Windows 2008 Server and the other (client) is running Windows 7. The server has a role set up as "file server", Windows Search 4.0 installed and shares one folder via the local network. The shared folder is mapped as network drive in Win7. When I try to add this shared folder to the new library list in Win7 I always end up with the error that "This network location can't be included because it is not indexed." Well, interestingly the particular folder shows up in the Included Locations list of the Indexing Options on the Win2008 Server (Control Panel -> Indexing Options). I already tri…
