Hi Folks, Anyone know if it's possible to disable individual hotkeys in XP? I've seen the reg fixes that disable *all* hotkeys. But I just want to disable particular ones, in order to free them up for other apps. Win-F1 is one example. Any ideas greatly appreciated! Thanks, Allie

Cannot make Documents Always Available Offline
by Guest Dan- 0 replies

We have a user who is running Vista Business 32bit with SP2 installed. We utilize Documents folder redirection to a network share. This user previously had Documents configured as "Always Available Offline" with offline folders in the sync center, but two weeks ago she was having troubles with her offline files - they just weren't available when she was off the network. I tried to uncheck that folder, but after I hit ok I got an error of "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." I tried disabling the offline files service and re-enabling, which removed the part…

Uninstall orphaned application
by Guest Rodders- 0 replies
Hi, I have a problem with a Terminal Server that I have inherited. Somewhere along the way an application has been installed (HP All in One) that I now want to uninstall. However I cannot uninstall it as it says that it is in use despite me rebooting the server and going for an uninstall straight away - and there are no obvious processes running that relate to this app. To further complicate the matter I fear that there is an undelying issue with this application - the C drive is 8 Gb (I know !) but when adding up the displayed folders it only totals 4Gb of disk space while logged in as Domain Admin. I therefore fear that this application has been orphan…

Hi guys, When building servers on our LAN part of our policy is to place them in a segregated network until they are patched, Anti-virus is installed, and a security audit has been done. While on the segrated network the machine has not internet connectivity. Part of the build process places the server into a critical patching cycle using our 3rd party software, which in theory means the patches will downloaded and installed through the course of the night. This does not always happen, and if the patching window is missing this can add an extra day onto the server build process because we need to correct the problem and then wait for the next patch window. Is…

Re: need help: dual monitor with a tablet PC, pen cursor ends up on other monitor
by Guest undisclosed- 0 replies

::A mouse is using relative coordinate that cursor’s movement is based on the current cursor position. Mouse does not know what the display orientation is but moves by user’s control. The tablet is a pointing device and is using absolute coordinates that is (0,0) at top left corner and (max_X, -max_Y) at bottom right. Therefore, the cursor goes to wherever the pen is pointing at and ignores the current cursor position. In your case, the primary display is at left and its origin is (0,0). The tablet PC is at right as a secondary display and its origin will be (1024,0). The tablet (input device) is a separate device from the monitor (output device) it is just h…

Accelerating file server
by Guest RealCat- 0 replies

Hello. We have put all the different sorts of compilers in a network drive on a Windows-based PC, and using them to compile source codes on other machines in the network by directly executing the compilers from the network drive. The advantage is that we don't have to install those many compilers on each and every PC, but the disadvantage is slow compilation. So we are looking for some ways to accelerate it. The drive size is about 180 GB, but I guess relatively small portion of them is frequently used but they are scattered in many directories. Is there any way to let Windows automatically cache most accessed files inside RAM as much as there are free RAM s…

Processor/cache recognition and vista 64
by Guest paxv- 0 replies

I'd like to know wether or not Vista (in my case Business 64) uses - both processors (both 4 cores) ( I use a 2 processor quad core AMD Opteron 2376 on a TYAN thunder 3600B Mainboard (16Gb RAM ECC/Reg) with a normal loadout of JBOD SATA HDD's and a DVD-RW) (It seems to do so but still, It reports my 8 tasks running as 12 and 13 percent (4 of both, together makes 100 , if this is percentages of total capacity then it's okay)) - level 2 and L3 cache (4x512 and 6144 respectively for both processor-dies ) I know it's on the system (I checked with CPU-Z but it only does a readout of the CPU, not a functionality check) but how do I check it works? I am n…
