A few days ago, a customer asked us how they could capture statistics changes that result in a new execution plan, receive a notification when queries have anti-patterns, or changes in automatic SQL Server optimization. Next, I would like to show you some examples. The script is used to create an Extended Event session named "CaptureChangesOnQuery" on a database. This session captures several different events related to automatic tuning, plan regression, settings changes, missing column statistics, query anti-patterns, and SQL statement recompilation. Let's go through each event and its details: This is the definition of Extended Event: CREATE EVENT …

Today, we are excited to announce a preview of Azure Container Instances (ACI) Spot containers. ACI Spot containers offer an improved pricing plan for ACI by allowing you to take advantage of unused Azure compute capacity at a significantly lower cost. With ACI Spot containers, you can run interruptible, containerized workloads at up-to-70% discounted prices (vs standard containers on ACI) and are billed for per-second memory and core usage like standard ACI containers. ACI Spot containers are well suited to short-lived, containerized workloads that tolerate Azure interruptions. Common scenarios include parallelizable offline workloads such as image rendering, geno…

Managing Container images for Private/Restricted Azure Kubernetes Clusters Introduction Recently I am having an increasing number of conversations with customers on how best to manage container images in disconnected or highly restricted environments. Cluster security is becoming increasingly more important, a 2023 report by Red Hat showed that 90% of enterprises surveyed had experienced a security incident in their Kubernetes environments in the last 12 months. There is certainly a trend from customers recently to harden environments making the most of Azure Services such as Azure Firewall to manage egress traffic or Network security groups…

TLDR; We have just published the Durable Functions for PowerShell SDK in the PowerShell Gallery. This package contains several improvements, and allows the development of the Durable Functions PowerShell to be de-coupled from the release cycle of the Azure Functions runtime. Try it out by installing `AzureFunctions.PowerShell.Durable.SDK` from the PowerShell Gallery. This is a breaking change release, so make sure to read the “breaking changes” section before upgrading. Durable Functions (DF) makes it easy to implement robust stateful services that make full use of the scaling and billing benefits of serverless, all while using your language of choice: C#, JavaScrip…

What is Grounding? Grounding is the process of using large language models (LLMs) with information that is use-case specific, relevant, and not available as part of the LLM's trained knowledge. It is crucial for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and relevance of the generated output. While LLMs come with a vast amount of knowledge already, this knowledge is limited and not tailored to specific use-cases. To obtain accurate and relevant output, we must provide LLMs with the necessary information. In other words, we need to "ground" the models in the context of our specific use-case. Motivation for Grounding The primary motivation for grounding is that LLMs a…
