Fun? I guess I like the challenge, but I don't know if I would use the term 'fun'. lol Well, I am going to try the Winlive CD once more then I am going to take out the HD and format a new one I bought - and then recover the backup from a month ago. I guess my main concern is and STILL WILL BE if I have a virus on the system drives or not. That is why I was really hoping to get this BitDefender going (and why for the life of me it seems to work for other but not me, I don't know!). Since I have to format the drive with this computer, there is a chance that there might be a virus on my slave drive (I have run a virus check on it,…

While in PowerPoint, open the "Design" tab in the ribbon. Open "Page Setup" and change the "Slides Sized For" option. Chose your size and accept the changes. Hey Tim... I found the same virus on my computer, try to delete it through avast and it shows right up again. It seems to be in the pagesys file. Is this where you found the trj? Last week at the Black Hat DC conference a presenter showed how one manufacturer's Trusted Platform Module (TPM) could be physically compromised to gain access to the secrets stored inside. Since that presentation, I have had plenty of questions from customers wanting to know how this might affect Windows. The answer? We believe that using a TPM is still an effective means to help protect sensitive information and accordingly take advantage of a TPM (if available) with our BitLocker Drive Encryption feature in Windows 7. The attack shown requires physical possession of the PC and requires someone with specialized equipment, intimate knowledge of semiconductor desi…

If you send three times from Word to Live Mail, it works on the third go (as noted on several other sites). Why is that? It seems pretty obvious that, this being the case, the fact it is not MAPI compliant cannot be the answer. Maybe someone who actually knows what they are talking about could enlighten us. Like Milly, I have no expertise in this area. In Excel 2002, I can create a live backup of a users work. I can do it as well for Word but not the same way. If the user for whatever reason gets disconnected or the file becomes corrupted, they will not lose anything. Is there a way to do this for all of Office XP and any other Office versions? I didnt see anything in the admin templates for Access or FP ... Thanks in advance Bill

Lately, when I've been trying to use the tab key, I get that Windows switch thing that supposed to happen when you alt-tab. I don't know whether I'm doing something to make that happen or need to re-map my keyboard. It usually starts after I'm using FaceBook weirdly enough. Any ideas?

  15. I have a 2008 machine set to use a static ip address of 156.42.75.117. The default website on this machine is set to use that ip address. We are hosting several internal sites, so I added another ip address to the nic and assigned one of the sites to the new ip address which is 156.42.75.74. All was working great until an automatic update installed and the machine restarted. Now the machine has assumed the 156.42.75.74 ip address. Any ideas why this is happening and what can I do to prevent it? thanks in advance. -will

Hi I have just added an Advent computer running Xp to my Home computer wireless network but it will not autoconnect to internet when I start up the XP computer. My wireless router is Belkin & needs the WEP security code. I had to reformat this XP computer & after doing this & setting up XP on it and connecting it to my Vista home network it will not autoconnect at startup. At start up IE browser says 'cannot connect to the internet- you appear to be connected to the internet but may have to reconnect'! After editing and printing the 10 documents within the master documents, I would like to save the 10 individual documents as pdf files. I can only find the function to save the master document as pfd file, not the 10 linked documents. I am using Word 2007. Anyone please?

I am running Vista and Office 2003 on a Sony Vaio. When I select 'open' to open a file (in Word, Powerpoint or Excel), only the folder and file NAMES are being listed, not their DETAILS (type, size, etc). I have 'details' selected as my listing format. All other listing formats, such as 'tiles', appear correctly. In fact, with Tiles the file type and size are shown. If I list the contents of a folder using Explorer or select 'open' in a non-Office application, the listing details appear correct. It just seems to affect Office. The 'column' in which folder and file names are listed appears slightly shaded, while the space to th…

After I did an update of nVidia 9600 gt driver in Win7 64bit 'Windows Update', no longer is the window size of ANY Microsoft apps that were open at the time of the update remembered (after I resize them, then close them then reopen them). It didn't affect all apps - Firefox was fine, but Internet Explorer, & all MS Office apps can no longer remember the size I made their windows. It didn't help to put the old driver back - in fact it made it worse, as by then I had even more apps open, and now none of those can't remember the window size either. There must be some place in the registry where a change got made for each of these…

Graham's macro takes almost 30 seconds to start printing--and this is when the target printer is still the default one. That's a bit too much time, as I can go the regular route sooner than that. I'm having an odd issue. At random times Outlook pops up a box asking me to enter network password. I have, by default saved my password. However, when the "enter network password" dialog box appears, the password is there in astrisk form. But the save password box isn't checked. I check the "save password" box and click OK. It then accesses my email. And later, from 15 minutes to over an hour it does the same process all over again. Anyone have any input on this issue? It gets Kind of frustrating. Thanks, Scott
