I ran Windows Easy Transfer on my laptop with Windows 7 RC1 to save and move my profile data because Win 7 RC is shutting down. I am trying to install the Windows Easy Tranfer data to Windows Vista Business. Each time I try it won't read the file but keep asking for the drive with the data to be loaded. I tried a test by moving the the data (.MIG) files out of the folder I saved them to and put them in the root of the drive but that didn't help. I tried a test of copying the files to the root of C: and now it actually sees the file for the short test at home I trying in the path window. It still does nothing after that, it acts like there is nothin…

Tried several solutions, deleting datastore and download maps, changed LAN setting to non-automatic, changed a lot of rules in my rather old Sygate firewall. Finally I disabled my old friend Sygate in the Windows firewall setting menu (first I removed my ethernet cable) and activated the Windows firewall included in XP. And a few minutes later Windows update proposed to install 45 updates. Lesson learned, once aga…

I am running an Acer Aspire 6920 running Vista 64. Altogether sound and well designed. I inserted an SD card in the built-in slot. Device was detected It was working great! Tried two other SD cards that had worked before. Same result! Removed &reinstalled the driver, first with the oem version and then generic Vista 64 driver, neither worked. Updates from MS has hosed my SD Reader: JMicron JMB38X Flash Media Controller Moving ahead is good. Moving ahead and then back, brings me, even a dummy die hard loyalist as I, to face the facts and a choice. Linux rather than Vista 64? When I go to Linux, it is for good. Mr Bill, What do yo…

I know this thread is old but here's a tip anyway: RegCure doesn't place the automatic startup function as a HKLM/RUN key (in the windows registry) as most other programs with an auto startup function, but instead it adds the auto startup function as a -windows task- which is automatically run on user log on. To prevent the RegCure auto start do the following: Locate and delete -C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\RegCure Startup-, or right click the task and deactivate it if you only want t…

If it is wrong (behind time) it shows expired certificates. I had a problem with security alerts seizing my machine. Had to use system restore. I only wish I could remember the site when i was infected.

It is possible to take advantage of the special software for such purposes - MergeExcel J wrote: Merge Excel Documents 27-Aug-07 I am trying to merge multiple excel spreadsheets in regular or CSV format so I don't have to copy and paste each and every file into one document. The problem I am experiencing is that the "compare and merge workbooks" is not highlighted and I cannot access that feature in Excel 2003. Does anybody know how I can get access to that feature or recommend an altnerative solution. Thanks. -J.R. Previous Posts In This Thread: On Monday, August 27, 2007 10:30 AM J wrote: M…

Hi, I hope this helps your case. I have vista basic and for most people, the routine of disabling and enabling your USB device works. Not for me. After process of elimination, I concluded that it wasn't my driver issue as my USB and my SD card reader on my toshiba satellite came AFTER windows did some non-essential updates. I removed them AND BAMMM!!! It worked. So basically, try rolling back your and deleting windows update from the last time the USB and SD card reader worked. Again hope this helps -- tiredofwindough

Morning all, When using https:// and there is a problem with a site's certificate, and IE8 displays a page telling me so, how can I check the certificate details before the site is loaded to my browser. The only method I have found so far is to continue to the site anyway, and then select to see only secure parts of the page. However this dowloads content before I am comfortable about the site's identity, although it does give me access to the 'red' address bar from which I can check the certificate. This problem arose for me because a recently renewed certificate was issued for an incorrect server name. Thanks.

URL Rewrite Module 2.0 provides a rule-based rewriting mechanism for changing requested URL’s before they get processed by web server and for modifying response content before it gets served to HTTP clients. Microsoft URL Rewrite Module 2.0 for IIS 7 RC is an incremental release that includes all the features from version 1.1, and adds support for rewriting of request and response headers as well as response content. More specifically, it can be used to: Replace the URLs generated by a web application in the response HTML with a more user friendly and search engine friendly equivalent.Modify the links in the HTML markup generated by a web application behind a reve…

I had exactly the same problem, but on Windows XP SP3. It may have started when I installed Office 2007 Student & Home edition. I checked the file associations (from the File Types tabbed page on the Folder Options window which can be launched from the Tools menu on an Explorer window) and found that although they looked correct in the list (Microsoft Word Document) when I edited it it said Microsoft Word Viewer (or similar, key term is "Viewer"). I changed to Microsoft Word and then the file could be loaded into Word from the recent documents list and from a shortcut icon. Before I licensed Office I typically viewed Word and Excel docs usi…

Pretty well as the subject implies, I would like to be able to extract the comments I have made on students papers so that I can let them easily know what comments I have created this is desired for when I would like to let them know how they are graded, or how they can improve without having to send 20 papers back and forth each class period. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. The main reason why I'm not using IE at home is the really bad handling with favorites. This is what most influences my UX with a browser, as I use them in every single session. First, the Favorites button and especially the "Add to Favorites Bar" button should be removed. They're annoying. I want to add my favorites by dragging a tab directly to the place where it belongs. It's annoying that I first have to click on this button, then sometimes the new link doesn't even appear in the favorites bar (bug) and after that I have to take it again and drag'n'drop it to the place where I already initially wanted to place it. Also, if I hover over a…

I am experiencing the same problem - although the error is not the same. In my case, the reason it is unable to boot from the CD/DVD is because, when I reach the "boot-from-CD-or-DVD"-option and have to press any key to do so, there is no power to the keyboard, meaning it will try and boot from the HDD as per usual. I have no trouble getting into BIOS or pressing F2 or F11 during start-up, or when inside BIOS, but the power turns off when I reach the Boot Failure screen where I can press Escape or F8? - to exit or continue. Whilst I appreciate your reply Stan, it is somewhat akin to gloating that you are superior. Whilst I am sure that you are more than able to argue your point to the Nth degree, there are I am sure many others who would disagree. I do not really have a point of view. What I have, I have to deal with, it is too late to start wishing I had different equipment. I have a problem, I have asked for advice. There is little point arguing whether 64 bit is worse than 32 bit as is the AMD Intel argument. The best advice you give is to wait until someone with knowledge of the problem suggests a solution. My Network configuration is as follows: 192.168.2.1-192.168.2.255 (Subnetmask - 255.255.255.0 ) 192.168.3.1-192.168.3.255 (Subnetmask - 255.255.255.0 ) I have only one Domain controller with two NIC cards. One NIC card is connected to 192.168.2.0 Network(via one switch) and other NIC card is connected to 192.168.3.0 network (via another switch). Will this one server serve as DC for two networks ? (One Domain is enough). Please see the Network configuration at http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/8596/networkf.jpg

I've noticed that in Word 2003, when I close a quotation after a dash, the auto-quote makes it a beginning quotation mark instead of an ending quotation mark. Has anyone else run into this? It did not happen in Word 2000. How can I fix it? -Al-

Hi folks. I am sitting at my computer with the second hard drive of the same model number on my desk. The same computer is producing the same symptoms as the first hard drive during an XP Home install. The computer was working ok before with a smaller hard drive. I searched google and found many people reporting problems with this model hard drive and many other Western Digital hard drives. An XP install fails with a "can not finish formatting the hard drive" message. From what little I have seen about the problems is the stick arm thing gets stuck in the read position, something like that. The hard drive is going back to the trader with some…
