Just chiming in - I see the exact same problem as others in this thread (Windows 7 Pro x64). I see the number of updates, and things are installed if I click OK, but the list is empty. I am basically installing stuff on good faith now. For a while the problem went away and I thought there had been a fix (which I couldn't see beforehand, of course), but now the same behaviour is back. This needs to be fixed. -- / David

Regrading my Global Empire: We've hired enough horsemen and staffers for March2010. Will re-start hiring in April2010. The 2 openings we still have are: a) My Horse Gloriosus is currently serving as Senator. He needs a groomer, entry-level is OK. Must own tools and have high tolerance of animal's gastric disturbances, which entails prolonged exposure to methane vapors. b) Need a door holder for Gloriosus. He is unable to use legs for that, and recentlky he got a case of "Charlie Horse". When he walks into Congress, he does not want to be faced with door issues. He wants to gallop into center stage and engage delegatres in a m…

This worked for me. I have Office 2003, not 2007. Microsoft Update wanted to install KB972581 but it would always fail. As suggested, I ran the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack (FileFormatConverters.exe) installation and it failed as predicted. Without rebooting, I ran the Office Installer Cleanup Tool and removed the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. Without rebooting, I ran the Update from the shield in the system tray and it installed. PERFECT ! ! ! I'm using XP Pro SP3, Office 2003 SP3 "n5mj" wrote: > On Oct 16, 10:43 am, TheDane > wrote: > > I have tried x times to run the windows update …

Since 2 weeks it has stopped. In the BU-centre Wizard at "What drives you want in the back-up record?" is written: Stations Unknown (C:) (Missing) - 0 bytes - 0 bytes Unknown (E:) (Missing) - 0 bytes - 0 bytes They are unchecked and greyed-out (uncheck able) The C: is on a SSD on SATA 1 and the E: drive is on an old-fashioned drive on SATA 3. On SATA 2 a disk entirely is taken by Linux (Ubuntu). The start-up sequence in the BIOS is SATA2 (Linux), 1 (Windows Vista Buss.), 3 (Windows data) At start-up first a boot manager asks if I will start Ubuntu or Windows: then, choosing Windows, Vista starts (the Windows Boot Manag…

I have the exact same problem, except on Windows 7. I was running Windows XP and IE8 and never had the problem. When my new computer arrived with Windows 7 (build 7600) and IE8, the problems began. Originally it was several times a day, but after changing the "Delete browsing history" options, it happens less frequently. After much hair-pulling and screaming, I have finally managed to find the pattern. Every time I install a Windows Defender definition update, Internet Explorer refuses to acknowledge the existing cookies. I hope the solution is to disable Windows Defender completely, and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware …

Fax console is configured to print the fax when it is received. Previously when the printer was hosted by the same computer it the incoming fax would print automatically. Recently, that printer was moved to a different computer, and the console was modified to print to the print device on that computer. Unfortunately, incoming faxes do not automatically print now. Is there a fix for this, or does the Fax Console only print to a local printer???

I don't think it's ignorance. I think it just makes too many basic mistakes to be taken seriously. But we can all have our pet obsessions. Yours happens to be SR. No shame in that. I pay my electricity bill via voice recognition and the (electronic) 'lady' on the end of the phone has never once made a single mistake even when I've mumbled or had a cold, so it must be good. I sometimes suspect that there's a real woman monitoring the robot just to make sure she never goes astray (or that could be just a fantasy). Anyhow, I'll ask her next time, if I get the chance, which operating system she runs on (the robot that is). Mind you…

Hello everyone, I have had several problems with my computer. First of all when I turned my computer on I got a message saying: 'Your computer is suffering from a recent hardware or software fault. The file is windows/config32/config/system. My windows would not come on. It said that windows failed to load because the system reistry file is corrupt or missing.' I was then instructed to repair windows however it would not let me. As a result of this I was told to do a new install. Finally once I tried to re-install windows vista I got a message reading: 'The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected Error. Windows I…

Hi all, I found this a while ago somewhere on the net. It works for all solid or wallpapers. So Credit to Lincoln Spetor. "*Change the Text Color for Desktop Icons *To change the text color in desktop icon captions. Microsoft doesn't provide that option, but there's a trick to turning the default white text to black. You can also turn off the drop shadows. In fact, you have to turn off the drop shadows before you can change the color: Select Start, then Run, type sysdm.cpl, and press ENTER. Click the Advanced tab. In the Performance box, click the Settings button. Scroll down to and uncheck Use drop shadows for icon labels …

Just yesterday, my Event Viewer starting crashing if I click on the "Time" or "Date" headers. What could cause this? Hopefully the program itself (mmc or it's event-viewer plugin) is not corrupt. I'm hoping it's due to something else, like too much data overflowing a buffer, or some needed service is stopped or disabled. I see that Dr. Watson records these crashes. He says, for what (if anything) it's worth: ============ BEGIN DR. WATSON'S REPORT ================================= Application exception occurred: App: mmc.exe (pid=888) When: 2010-03-08 @ 00:09:24.875 Exception number: c0000005 (access violation) *----&g…

In the old days, this would have looked like an IRQ problem. I realise we are supposed to be beyond those now, but have you checked that all is well in the BIOS in that area?

Hello All, I have a logon script (W2k3 domain) which runs as part of a group policy. The script connects a networked printer and sets it as default. Works perfect on Windows Xp systems. Just introduced 4 Vista Pro systems to the network. I'm findng the script runs and connects the printer, but setting it as the default is hit and miss! Sometimes it sets it as default, other times not. The VBS script is as follows: Option Explicit Dim objNetwork, strUNCPrinter strUNCPrinter = "\\server1\laser7" Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection strUNCPrinter objNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\…

Here's how I fixed this problem: 1) Click START... RUN... type Services.msc in the box... click OK 2) Change both of the following services from "Automatic" to "Disable" ---> Plug and Play Service ---> Windows Audio Service 3) Reboot, then reset both the "Plug and Play" & "Windows Audio" Services back to "Automatic". 4) Reboot, then test if the "Beep" is still there by opening a new MS Word document, type a few letters, then exit without saving to get the Exclamation/Beep prompt. =) "Jackpine" wrote: > Since yesterday, my PC makes a single beep when the following quest…
