I cannot make the 2008 server a DC as we run Xenapp on it and Xenapp will not run on a DC. Thanks in advance!

I had the same issue on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. I was having issues w/an external DVD-RW driver because my box was 2008 64bit. I decided to wack out the driver so I would stop getting the constant error/reminder. When I did that I lost function of my box's internal DVD drive as well..... Couldn't find anything that worked until I found the link to Microsoft that shows the registry steps required to wack out a couple entries.... I rebooted and now everything works perfect! Thanks -- cosmanmr

I have a physical install of Server 2008 and a virtual machine install of Server 2008. The physical install has AD, DNS, and DFS installed. The virtual only has DNS and DFS. I am able to ping by name and IP on both systems the opposite system without any issues. However, I am not able to browse the virtual on the physical in the networks listing. (They are both in the same domain--we will call them server1.home.com and server2.home.com--so they are both in home.com.)I can browse the physical from the virtual. When I create a namespace on the physical and then put a folder in there from the physical it works fine. I cannot locate a folder on the virtual as it does n…

I had the exact same problem and tried almost everything. Particularly frustrating since I have 3 virtually identical boxes and only one was acting up. What finally worked was method #3 here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330135 The one about setting "allocatecdroms" to "0". Good luck!

I have 50 identical HP dc7900 workstations running XP Pro SP3 and Office 2007 Professional SP2 on domain. All 50 have the following Office 2007 .adm files added in the c:\windows\inf folder: excel12.adm, office12.adm, outlk12.adm, word12.adm, ppt12.adm. All 5 of these .adm templates have been added under "User Configuration / Administrative Templates" in gpedit.msc. I am using the Word, Excel & PowerPoint .adm files to "block the saving of .xml file types". While no such policy setting exists for Outlook 2007, when users close out of Outlook, the following message appears "Microsoft Office Outlook - You are attempting to save a file type thatis…

If I open a folder containing a file with windows explorer (windowsXP service pack 3) and place my cursor over a .avi file, an error window pops up showing a "Data Execution prevention" and explorer is stopped. Evidently windows explorer tries to execute something that is able to display a thumbnail of a frame of the video. This happens even if the "Explorer Bar" is set to something like "folders" which wouldn't display the thumbnail. This "prevention" can be turned off by going to start/control panel/system/advanced/performance/data execution prevention, selecting the "Turn on DEP except for" and checking "Windows Explorer". A reboot is nec…

Win XP Home. MS Office 2003 Normally MS Word would always display the same view as when I left it. However just recently, it has decided to display settings which I did not select. These are, the Vertical and Horizontal Rulers, no Text Boundaries, and 150% Zoom instead of my "standard" 95%. I have tried Repair MS Office and Reinstalled Word, neither of which made any difference. If I change these settings manually and log out of Word, they are retained for the current session, but next time the PC is booted, the incorrect settings re-appear. Any suggestions please. donwb

Hi there. I'm wondering if there is a way via GPO or anything else to prevent users from saving music and pictures to their local hard drives without using any type of profile or folder redirection. Thanks.

Hi all, I have a 2008 domain in 2008 mode, 2 DC's (2008) and wish to set up a domain based DFS, but the 2008 mode is greyed out. I can assure you that AD is replicating happily and there are no other DFS's on the network. Does anyone know where to start on this issue? Thx

I have MS Intellipoint Laser Mouse 7000 V7.0 installed. I went to install the latest update V7.1 and the following window update tagged along without my knowledge or permission KB970158. It was strange because it didn't come thru the normal windows update screen. I can't find any information as to what it is. Microsoft doesn't even show a description for this update. Some sort of driver. Anyway, I uninstalled it from the update screen and my mouse cease to function. I subsequently uninstalled V7.1 and went back to V7.0 and everything works again. I've searched around and can't find what it is. Can anybody enlighten me? -- arejfour …

Hi there For some reason, I can no longer send emails using the send command in any of Word, XL or PPT. I get error messages in each which are slightly different but which are: WORD - Logon failed. You must log on to Microsoft Exchange to access your address book. Error code: "Unspecified error". EXCEL - General mail failure. Quit Microsoft Excel, restart the mail system and try again. PPT - There was a general failure with the email system and this action could not be completed. Windows Live Mail is set as my default email programme and in each case is opens when I choose 'send' but all I get are the above error messages…

Mr. Ottmar, I have a similar situation here. I don't see any iis_ line mentioned in sysoc.inf file. And I remember my hpdv4 laptop servicing guy used the tool 'nlite' or 'nlyte' to get over with some blue screen error. My problem is, after a new installtion of the OS - IIS is not listed nowhere to add/install in my winxp pro sp3 now ? "Ottmar Freudenberger" wrote: > "K. From what I've read else where, Teredo tunnelling is not something you would want enabled. It is a security risk and should only be used if your firewall can deal with it. Read this article I found: 'Simeon Stoychev's blog > Teredo Tunnels' (http://tinyurl.com/y9f4j2h) -- Fu-Dog Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

I cannot print from any MS office 2007 application on either printer I have (Xerox and HP). This leads me to believe it is an MS Office problem and not a problem with the printers and/or companies. I have a new computer running Win 7 64 bit and I can print from any application that is not Office (Adobe, Photoshop…) I get this error message: “Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current setup†It then gives some standard things to try (check the cable, check the spool..) but none of them work. I have seen many other posts from other users that have said they have a similar problem but primarily with a specific progr…
