Hi, I have a problem with a slightly old set up, but I want to find a solution....have an XP Pro box, SP3, with two network cards. Card 1: this is my internet bound connection and has a public address on a 255.255.255.248 subnect. The gateway is a Cisco router and this connected to the internet without issues. Card 2: this is an internal private address and is connect to another internal network - just configured with IP address and subnet - no gateway. I have installed nating on the NICs, card 1 being public (full) and 2 being private. My network connecting on card 2 can get out on the internet by specifying the card 1 addres…

Installing Office 2007 on Windows 7 powerpointmui.msi error
by Guest undisclosed- 0 replies
Hi everyone I tried to install Office 2007 (32bit) on Windows 7 (64bit), but I get the error "please indicate where the file 'powerpoint.en-us\powerpointmui.msi' can be found". pointing to the right directory, the same message reappears (but of course the file is present). I searched on the web, and found several times the same problem, but not a solution... - is this a problem with 32/64bit version? (but some websites state this should not be the case) - launching setup in compatibility mode or as administrator does not help Can anyone help? Thank you in advance -- LordValen

QoS RSVP service (XP)
by Guest brikeh- 0 replies

Some of us may find that after installing Windows XP, the Internet connection gets slower. A possible reason for this is the QoS (Quality of Service) installed. This service reserves 20 per cent of the bandwidth for itself, even with QoS disabled. In order to remove this reserved quota, you will have to make sure you are logged on as Administrator. Go to Start > Run and type gpedit.msc. Expand the local computer policy branch, the administrative templates branch, and the network branch. Highlight the QoS Packet Scheduler in the left window and in the right window double-click the limit reservable bandwidth setting. Then, on the Setting tab, c…

Bulletin Severity Rating:Critical - This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft DirectShow. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user opened a specially crafted AVI file. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs view, change, or delete data or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights. View the full article

The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if an attacker created a specially crafted SMB packet and sent the packet to an affected system. Firewall best practices and standard default firewall configurations can help protect networks from attacks originating outside the enterprise perimeter that would attempt to exploit these vulnerabilities.
