Bulletin Severity Rating:Critical - This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a host application opens and passes a specially crafted file to Visual Basic for Applications. If a user is logged on with administrative user rights, an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs view, change, or delete data or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than u…

Whenever i download certain docx files from my e-mail server IE wants to save them as a zip file. I've seen some fixes posted around the internet and none of them have worked. things i've tried: *setting "Open files based on content instead of extension" to disabled *updating .net framework *ensuring group policy reflects the first thing I do not have access to the server to edit the MIME types, and using a different browser is not an option. I'm solving this problem for a number of users, some of which are not at all tech-savvy, so using "save as" or renaming the file after downloading also arent options. Does anyone have ot…

Hi, I had posted this question before, but I think I placed it in the wrong area so i apologize. Apparently a lot of people where having a problem saving Office files to servers after the MS update on April 13th--- I have the same problem and I have been attempting to remove the KB980232 update without success. The update does not shown up in Add/Remove programs. Does show up by going to the MS Update site as being installed on the 4/13. I found the info in the Registry and the uninstall info as:C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB980232$\spuninst\spuninst.exe. However, I get an error "The system cannot find the path specified". There are 4 d…

I like the new My Page homepage customization feature, but every few days my settings disappear and my homepage is back to the standard msn.com. I'm running Vista, I've fiddled with my antivirus (Norton 360) and looked around in the IE Tools tab but can't figure out what I'm missing - any ideas? Thanks. -- MEL652

The most frequent question I've been getting for the past year-plus regarding Office 2010 is whether it's worth an upgrade. Is there anything in Microsoft's soon-to-be-released office suite that Office XP, Office 2003 and/or Office 2007 users of the suite might find "compelling"? Will any of Office 2010's features put a dent in Google Docs' momentum among the home, student and SMB set? More...

What is Happening? This message is to inform you that Microsoft will soon begin discontinuing newsgroups and transitioning users to Microsoft forums. Why? As you may know, newsgroups have existed for many years now however, the traffic in the Microsoft newsgroups has been steadily decreasing for the past several years while customers and participants are increasingly finding solutions in the forums on Microsoft properties and third party sites. This move will unify the customer experience, centralize content, make it easier for active contributors to retain their influence, mitigate redundancies and make the content easier to find by cus…
