I have used nLite and IEAK8 to create an XP Pro installation CD that includes SP3 and all recent updates, and automatically installs IE8 with a number of settings configured. I have tested the CD and found that it works, but that there are a number of things that did not get setup correctly. I am thinking that some of these may require registry settings. I would like to have the following settings automatically configured: 1) Enable the Quick Launch and Desktop toolbars 2) Define network connections (nLite would seem to allow this, but it didn't work for some reason) 3) Include an activation key for XP so that the OS does not need to b…

Hi mate, I had same prob...[Here's what i did] I went to another computer downloaded msvcp60.dll onto a disk then booted the faulty computer in xp repair mode with the xp disk. Once i was at the c:\windows prompt, i swapped disks with the one that had the msvcp60.dll file and then typed : copy e:\msvcp60.dll c:\windows\system32\system this copied the file back to where it should be and now the PC boots up fine.. HOPE THIS HELPS Cheers 8) -- petebender ------------------------------------------------------------------------ petebender's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/226421.htm View this thread: http://f…

Greetings, group. I used to have my Windows 2000 set up so that when I double-click a file icon with unknown extension, it would open in a binary editor called "HxD". On right-clicking a file of unknown type, the top few entries on the context menu were: Edit in HxD (boldface) Edit in Neo (lightface) Edit in NoteTab (lightface) But recently, when I double-click a file of unknown type, the "choose a program to open this file" box pops up instead. And on right-clicking the file, I get: Open (boldface) (launches "choose program" box) Edit in HxD (lightface) Edit in Neo (lightface) Edit i…

Hello Oliver and all Thanks for starting the thread and expanding on the solution. I think I may have come up with a fairly simple way to replace the missing registry keys. Reinstall SP3 I think it's quicker and cleaner than a full overlay and it worked for me, at least on the machine I'm currently working with. Thanks again Ed http://www.amgeek.com -- Amgeek ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Amgeek's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/226290.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-xp-support/880604.htm http://forums.techarena.in

I've added a task in Task Scheduler that just loads up a very simple program I have that displays some date information. I look at it for about 1 minute then close it. However, I've noticed that after I close my program the task is still running. I'm not really sure what it means that the task is still running, since I've closed the program the task opened. In Settings, I've set "Stop the task if it runs longer than" to 1 hour (the shortest setting), but I really don't need the task to keep running at all once it's loaded my program. It's no big deal and doesn't affect anything, but is there a way I can get the task to …

Hello good people I am a novice and want to configure clients to access internet via my server but i can't find a way. My DC access internet via data card which does not have a static IP address, when i give it static IP, it automatically disable it. I have watched all MCITP videos but none brings this close to me, illustratively ofcourse. Also i want to configure users to use emails and need how to configure the settings thereof. Your assistance will be highly appreciated as i need to take my exams as soon as possible. Do i have to register the IP addresses? Remotely i also cannot access my workplace after configuring VPN and/or Terminal Servers. I have all IIS…

What is Happening? This message is to inform you that Microsoft will soon begin discontinuing newsgroups and transitioning users to Microsoft forums. Why? As you may know, newsgroups have existed for many years now however, the traffic in the Microsoft newsgroups has been steadily decreasing for the past several years while customers and participants are increasingly finding solutions in the forums on Microsoft properties and third party sites. This move will unify the customer experience, centralize content, make it easier for active contributors to retain their influence, mitigate redundancies and make the content easier to find by cus…
