DWM - Seems to be causing Problems
by Guest Vic- 0 replies

I've been using Vista for several years now and contrary to all of the complaints, I've been very satisfied with it. Maybe it's because I've always had the UAC control switched off I don't know but for me it has performed very well. However, several weeks ago I started experiencing problems when listening to XM Radio which I usually have tuned in throughout the day. The problem is that it has started getting these delays and the sound sounded like machine gun bursts. At first I thought it was my network provider but recently decided it was my machine when I was playing a DVD and and the sound was doing the same thing. Today, I noticed th…

How do I convert .doc files to .mdi files?
by Guest Pilesoffiles- 0 replies

How do I convert .doc files to .mdi files? I am using Vista and I have many scanned documents that were saved as .doc files and some as .tif files. The ..tif were easy to convert by just rename the extention from .tif to .mdi, the ..doc files won't do this. I have to open the file then "export" and chage to ..mdi, this also leaves the original file that I then have to go back and delete. Is there a faster way?

Mpeg viewing with WMP12
by Guest from faithinit- 0 replies

I had the problem that I could play mpg files up to a point and then wmp12 would end. The point where the viewing stopped was different for different mpg files. I considered this a codec problem and installed c Codecs - All in One. My mpeg files now play through. However, I have a problem with the seek slider as if I try to move along the video it jumps to the end and stops. So partial success. Daniel wrote: Problem with Windows Media Player 12 30-Oct-09 Hi everybody, I installed Windows 7 a few days ago. Well in this case there are many round about ways to possibly reset your login & password, all fraught with peril... I would suggest that you download & burn yourself a Password "Recovery" disk. You may have to use a friends PC to do this. You can get a Password Reset disc download and burn to CD. Copy/paste the address bel…

Windows Vista keeps rebooting (maybe due to an error in an update)
by Guest joseph meservy- 0 replies
This occurs sometimes with laptops after an update. You can boot safemode, but after a regular boot up, logging into your account, the computer logs you onto the desktop then reboots the computer after 1-5 seconds. Doing a System Restore to a prior date (achieved by safemode with command prompt: rstrui.exe) doesn't fix it. SOLUTION: Unplug the laptop Remove the battery from the laptop Wait 20 seconds, put the battery back in, plug the computer back it. Startup and behold your genius. Computer is back to normal. =) just smile and laugh that it was so easy. (I ran virus checks, checked the ntbtlog.txt and simply put spent …

Windows Error Reporting Service
by Guest JamesJ- 0 replies

Vista Basic sp2 I have Windows Error Reporting Service Disabled in Services. But, in Task Scheduler the Windows Error Reporting is still set to and does run at "Log on of any user." I thought disabling the service in services causes the service not to run!? Any idea why this runs even though I have the service disable?? The only reason I found out this runs is because I have an event sound for Open Program. I wonder how many other services I have disabled that run without my knowledge. Thanks James

Dealing with Office 2007 & Office 2003 file formats
by Guest RSpence1270- 0 replies

My company plans on moving to Office 2007 soon. However, we have a delimma with how to handle how Office files are saved. For example, if a person open a .doc & makes changes in Office 2007 and some of those changes are not supported by the .doc, then the file is saved as a ..docx. This leaves us with two files... a doc & a docx. We really don't want someone updating the .doc anymore. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Side notes: ~We have the compatibility pack installed on all computers. ~The batch converter tool doesn't seem like a good fit for us. We have files in multiple locations, many servers... ~We h…

window media player fails

Yesterday I downloaded MVI_1138.AVI from my camera. Then I played it (so it was good) Then I played it for one of my children (it was good) Then I played it for my SO (it was still good) Today it will not play. The message is that WMP does not recognize the file type. This is interesting, because it thinks it is trying to play MVI_1138 (no suffix). Anybody recognize the problem? Is this a common problem? Is there a known fix? Charles

When I decided to upgrade I did a bunch of research, I knew four things to start: 1. I wanted an Intel Core i7 920, good price/performance ratio. 2. I knew I couldn't build a PC for the price since I'd need cpu, mb and memory and there are great deals around on PCs now. 3. I had previous experience with HP and knew that their website was to me very superior to other manufacturers. I have complete motherboard pics, specs, bios info, etc. along with the ability to download all original software, drivers,…
