Error 1311: Adobe 9 Installer
by Guest HarperE- 0 replies

I have successfully downloaded Office Home and Student onto my own computer but now trying to upload it onto another computer, everytime I do though it comes up with the following error : Error 1311. Source file not found: C:\Documents and Settings\new\Desktop\Adobe Reader 9 Installer\SKU011.CAB. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. I have contacted the forums for Adobe and they have said it is a problem with Windows. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader 9, installed the Windows Utility function, also followed the help guides for the Error 1311 sections on the Windows websites, so this is the last resort. CD/DVD drive shows wrong icon when I place a disc in the drive
by Guest nachumk- 0 replies
I just debugged the same problem. My issues started b/c of iTunes and GearASPI drivers, but even after I fixed those issues, and restored Autoplay I still was missing the icon with every disc put in. For me the solution was uninstalling from the control panel the "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" which is the parent of my DVD drive. Once I let Windows reinstall the controller and subsequently the DVD drive, the icons started to work once again. Looks like I've finally straightened out all my DVD woes. -- nachumk Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

I installed the SSL certificate from godaddy on IIS 7.0. I am able to browse https from a client computer (my desktop). If I try to browse https from the windows 2008 server (IIS 7.0 box) I get a page not found error. I can create a local certificate in IIS 7.0 and the site will work with https. The problem is I can not view in https from the server that has the SSL certificate installed. I get a page not found error. no entries in the IIS 7.0 log files or event log. It is like the site does not exists. SSL works from my client computer ok.

Add a right-click Explorer menu item
by Guest Pegasus [MVP]- 0 replies

KB article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321379 shows how to create an extra item in the list that pops up when right-clicking a folder name in Windows Explorer. No problem there. I would now like to create an extra item in the list that pops up when right-clicking an *empty* spot in an opened folder. It normally shows items such as "View", "Sort by", "Group by", "Refresh". Can someone refer me to a place where the technique is explained?

The User Profile Service failed the logon.

:sarc:I tried the solution above and it didn't fix the problem. Instead, I found a much easier fix. ) I should also mention that, for my situation, I only have one User account set up and it is an Administrator account. This was not a "new" account, but one I have been using since I got the computer three years ago. 1. Restart the computer and enter "Safe Mode". If hitting the 'F' buttons doesn't work, the easiest way to do it is to shut off your computer unexpectedly (ie. hold the power button down until the computer shuts off). 2. Go to Control Panel and double-click on User Accounts. For me, when I tried to open the Control P…

Cumulative Security Update for IE8 kb980182

[Crosspost to Windows Update newsgroup] Is Vista SP1 and/or SP2 installed? What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed IE8? I am running Windows XP Professional. This auto update started failing after rolling back and re-updating Windows Media Player to v11 (which isn't working right). How to automatically allow JavaScript but NOT (other) ActiveX execution on web pages?
by Guest Brian Cooper- 0 replies

When I visit web pages with embedded JavaScript then currently always a yellow bar at the top of the browser window appears telling me something about ActiveX and security risks. Ok, I can click manually on a submenu and allow the execution. But this is somehow annoying on the long run. How EXACTLY can I always automatically allow JavaScript scripts BUT NO OTHER ActiveX component execution? Is this possible at all or are the permissions undividable linked together? Brian
