I manage a Windows 2008 R2 SBS network with a single server and a number of new Windows 7 workstations. A couple of older XP workstations have been upgraded to Pro and joined to the network. Recently, I replaced one of the legacy PCs with a new Windows 7 Home Premium PC then upgraded it to Win7 Professional (HP5). I shared parallel printers from HP5 and all the other new Win7 workstations can see the printers and access them. The XP station (XP-PC) cannot. It can ping HP5 by name, but not view or access any resources. This occurs even if I am logged in as domain administrator on that PC. Initially, I found there was an issue with SBS 2…

That’s why the seemingly sudden decision to take the service down the evening of June 21 for “system maintenance” is spawning some interesting speculation. More...

On the Internet Explorer team we use the Windows Performance Tools to measure browser runtime performance. The Windows Performance Tools are among the most accurate performance tools available which is why they&rsquore commonly used across the industry. In this post I will give an introduction to using the Windows Performance Tools with Internet Explorer. Using the Windows Performance Tools you can measure not only the overall elapsed time of operations, but also look at the time spent in individu…

I am a newby to Windows Server. Our operation is changing from being a Netware shop to a Microsoft shop. It seemed like a big task to start with, but we didn't realize just how big it would be. We are still learning as we go.

I have been using Win 7, 64 bit system which will not run some of my software which ran perfectly in XP. From previous posts, I upgraded to PRO, downloaded Virtual PC and XP mode. All runs fine. My software runs as expected. But, I am unable to install driver software for Brothers MFC-490 printer. The install goes well until the last "step", then NADA. Anyone have experience with this problem?

What is Happening? This message is to inform you that Microsoft will soon begin discontinuing newsgroups and transitioning users to Microsoft forums. Why? As you may know, newsgroups have existed for many years now however, the traffic in the Microsoft newsgroups has been steadily decreasing for the past several years while customers and participants are increasingly finding solutions in the forums on Microsoft properties and third party sites. This move will unify the customer experience, centralize content, make it easier for active contributors to retain their influence, mitigate redundancies and make the content easier to find by cus…
