Microsoft is looking into a zero-day vulnerability today, which reportedly affects systems running Windows Vista and 7. Researcher Laurent Gaffie said that a hacker could exploit the flaw on Windows 7 to cause a critical system error. The flaw lies in a Server Message Block 2 (SMB2) driver. Gaffie said in a blog post yesterday, "SRV2.SYS fails to handle malformed SMB headers for the NEGOTIATE PROTOCOL REQUEST functionality." People who have commented on his blog post are reporting that the exploit can not only lead to denial of service, but also remote code execution. Gaffie has contacted Microsoft, and it has since responded by saying that it is investigating the…

Terminal Service 2008 amd Crystal Report (registry trouble ?)
by Guest Porlock- 0 replies

Hi everyone, I develop an account software that use Crystal Report to obtain reporting capabilities. My software supports three runtimes of Crystal Reports: release 8, release 9 and release XI. The user can configure the application and choose which to use. Some installations (of our customers) use Terminal Server features: the application is installed on the host pc (usually Windows Server 2003), and the clients (running XP) connect to the host and use the software via Terminal Service, and all works fine. Recently one customer of ours has set up a Windows Server 2008, and troubles began ! ... the Crystal Reports runtime failed to function. Let me …

IPSec implementation in IMS Core
by Guest Varun Srivastava- 0 replies
Recently, in a telco environment implementation, I tried my hands on the following structure to improvise the Multimedia Subsystem security in IP Networks and further addition of IPSec to secure the carrier network. I started with the first interaction and authentication at the User Equipment level with IMS core through ISIM authorization and used PKINIT for IKE. At this first interaction interface, I tried to replace PKINIT with traditional gateway devices for data authentication in both active and passive mode but PKINIT proved to be a better option. Entire authentication and authorization here is handled via Serving CSCF but key generation as theoreti…

:o I have a problem with our windows server 2008 installation. It concerns a printing problem. On the server itself are installed 2 printers ( standard TCP IP ports), one virtual PDF printer and the standard microsoft XPS document writer). What happens now, if we print out of an office application, no problem, everything works, with administrator or normal user account. When we print out of other applications or out of the command line or richt click menu or something, then we have 2 options - with administration rights, everything comes out ok, on each printer - normal user rights, the pages come out but .. all blank (also for exemple the xps or pdf file is …

Monitor fails to power on from S3 state Vista64bitSP1
by Guest *BUSY*- 0 replies
This problem has persisted through radical hardware differences--the only thing unchanged has been vista 64bit. Different monitors, power supplies, motherboards, RAM, processors-Intel and AMD, VGA cards-ATI and nVidia, etc... Whatever Vista is supposed to suspend to RAM to wake up a monitor is not getting done right. Vista wakes from S3, you just can't see it. You can hit cntl-alt-del and arrow down two or three, hit enter and it makes the log-off sound. After that I have to hit the reset button on the tower because I'm not real keyboard savvy to get the cursor down to the power button in the corner of the welcome screen. Just sold a nice system and had …

Problem using Smart Card Reader with Remote Desktop Connection
by Guest LoveDivineMother- 0 replies
We have problem using smart card reader when Remote Desktop connection is made. Our application (running as windows service) uses smartcard reader. This application is installed on Machine A (Windows XP). Smartcard reader is connected to Machine A itself. Normally application is able to detect & use smartcard reader. If we connect to Machine A from another Machine B (also Windows XP) via Remote Desktop Connection, the application on Machine A looses connection to smartcard reader. This happens only when RDP connection is made. To rule out possibility of problem in our application, we tested smartcard reader with a Smartcard test utility (SmartPCS…
