Drive Activity on Idle Laptops
by Guest Roger Fink- 0 replies

I have two similarly fitted out Thinkpads of the same vintage running Win2000. On one of them, when there is no computing going on, the machine is truly idle, at least to outward appearances. There is only very infrequent random blinking of the hard drive activity LED and corresponding drive noise. On the second computer however, there is constant fixed interval LED blinking and drive clicking - I'd say about once per second - when the machine is idle. I don't think it's the installed applications, and in fact I removed Goback and unplugged the internet connection as potential culprits, but neither made any difference. I'm wondering if this is normal, and if it…

SD Card Optimize for Performance doesn't work?
by Guest Scott- 0 replies
I have a Lenovo T400, just reloaded it to factory and for some reason it now will not retain the setting of optimizing for performance for the sd card...I select it from the policies menu in device manager, it refreshes the drive and I go back to verify it's selected and it's set to optimize for quick performance again...I briefly displayed some insanity by trying it over and over a few times...same thing...even tried reapplying SP3 - same thing. Thanks for any and all help!

Bitlocker with USB + PIN only, without TPM. Possible?
by Guest leesiulung- 0 replies
I want to only use USB key + PIN. Why? Although technically the PIN is stored on the USB KEY as 6 sets of 8 digits, if I accidentally leave the USB key in. Anyone can boot up computer. With a 4 digit pin, this might take a little longer. So, is USB Key + PIN possible? Since, all the official documents point to not possible, I'm wondering if I'm heading in the wrong direction. -- leesiulung

TWO 92) SIMPLE QUESTIONS (inExplorer)
by Guest Stan Starinski- 0 replies

Hi, It's not terribly important but if someone could give me a hint: a) I forgot how to prevent ZIP (comrpessed) folders from appearing as separate folders in left-pane in WinExplorer in ListView. These I prefer to see as files, which they arel not as folders. For example a foldetree containing just 5 subfolders, annoys me by showing like 30 other "fodlers" on the left which ar ein fact simply zip files. style_emoticons//cool.gif Suddenly mouse right-click (contect menu) -->create new menu, in WinExplorer, is showing all icons corresponding to each "new" filetype (new text, new Word doc, etc) in Black & White. Why colors are gone (usually yellow…

I've been fighting this problem for days. I tried creating a new port as suggested above by typing "\\computer name\printer name", but Vista kept saying the port name was invalid. Finally, I tried it again, but this time I replaced my computer name with the IP address - "//192.168.2.3/HPOffice" and IT WORKED!! Thank you guys! You really helped me get pointed in the right direction! I hope my post further helps other.
