By Paul Thurrott Amazon’s new Kindle Fire isn’t an iPad killer, but then it doesn’t try to be. Instead, it’s the purest media tablet around, a magical and revolutionary device that sells for an unbelievable price. Sound familiar? It should, but this time it’s true: The Kindle Fire is a tremendous value, the right product at the right price. Source: Win Super Site

By Paul Thurrott While Google and Apple are getting a lot of press these days about their respective cloud services initiatives, Microsoft of course has its own cloud solutions, some of which are surprisingly low profile despite their usefulness. One such service is SkyDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage solution, which has undergone a number of important improvements in recent months. But today, the company announced plans to address users’ changing needs and, I think, offer something that is more compelling. Source: Win Super Site

Good Afternoon, Happy Holidays! I am trying to add a second DNS/DHCP server. Currently the only one we have is in another state and we communicate to it via BOVPN. ( this can't be optimal ) I am looking to improve resolution and network speed. Some notes about our network: only the main office uses Active Directory, pdc/dns/wins/(etc.) @ 192.168.1.250 main office: 192.168.1.0/24 branch office: 192.168.2.0/24 I can't seem to get constant resolution, i think if i get any at all, its coincidental. Please view my settings at http://www.sumarlidason.com/dnsissue Thanks in advance for any help

Two related features, CSS3 Transitions and CSS3 Animations, give Web developers a declarative way to add personality to Web page interactions easily. This blog post describes these two features as implemented in IE10 in the Windows Developer Preview and Windows 8 Metro style apps written in HTML. Same Markup

By Paul Thurrott Microsoft chairman Bill Gates testified Monday in a small antitrust case that concerns events from the mid-1990s, an obscure, almost historical time period when he was directly responsible for the software giant’s strategy. But unlike Microsoft’s vaunted antitrust case with the US government, this time Gates actually showed up in court. And he was quick to dismiss theories about his actions at the time. By Paul Thurrott Days ahead of the usual "Black Friday" silliness, online giant Amazon.com is offering a slew of smart phones for one penny. According to the company, the deal runs from midnight PDT November 21, 2011, through 11:59 p.m. PDT November 28, 2011, while supplies last, including phones for the Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T wireless networks, and requires a new line of service. By Paul Thurrott In the first step towards what can only be described as an inevitable disaster, Google today announced that it was lowering the price of the Chromebook to just $300. As with most Android-based tablets, however, few consumers actually want such a device, so the price cut is unlikely to generate any meaningful new sales. Source: Win Super Site

And then I want to explain why I’ve moved on. Source: Win Super Site

By Paul Thurrott While the Kindle Fire clearly has the iPad in its sights, remember that the media tablet market is still in the early stages. And by the end of 2012, there should be a third major player in the field: Microsoft, which in tandem with its many hardware partners will unleash a diverse lineup of tablet devices based on Windows 8. I believe Windows 8 will account for a huge chunk of this market. Here’s how it could happen. Source: Win Super Site

By Paul Thurrott Amazon.com is a surprising new emerging tech industry giant, alongside such familiar companies as Apple, Google, and Microsoft. The company has continued expanding its reach, and today it offers a fairly compelling media platform with a variety of content types, apps, and even hardware devices. I’m not the only one that’s noticed. Frugal Dad this week published a stunning infographic focusing on Amazon.com and its amazing growth and reach. Source: Win Super Site

By Paul Thurrott Dell this week said that it has replaced over 15,000 Blackberry handsets in the company with Windows Phone devices. That should be a major win for Microsoft’s struggling smart phone platform, but there’s just one problem: Dell is using its own previous generation Windows Phone devices as it has thus far declined to release new versions based on Windows Phone 7.5.
