I was running 32 bit Win7 and I decided to upgrade to 64 bit because I bought 4 G more ram. Anyways, I've upgraded and there is a windows.old folder talking up like 23 gigs of my HD. The disk cleanup tool isn't very helpful. It does not have the same functions as the Vista version so I can't remove old copies of windows. Any solutions? Thanks a bunch Continue reading...

We are finding the logins slow, it takes up to 4 minutes to get to the desktop. I think it's the profile being copied over to default user for each new user that logs in?. I'd like to hear from other people with Windows 7 and AD in their organizations, are your login's snappy? Maybe it's a misconfig on our part. Thanks for any assistance in order to shed some light on this conundrum. Continue reading...

So i am trying to make an Hardware independed windows 7 image with updates, i am using imagex and wim files to make those images. The main problem is display drivers. We'd like to have our Corporate Office 2010 setup without the default theme files installed. We have our own themes created and available, but do not want users to use the built in themes. Is there any way, apart from deleting the files in %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 14, that we can enforce this. Ideally at install or centrally managed. Cheers Dan Kelly Continue reading...

I've been trying to set up a customized .msp file for deploying Office 2010 to our test group here. The first problem I've run into is getting it to install Outlook without turning on Cached Exchange Mode (CEM). With very rare exceptions, we don't use CEM on any of our systems. And where there's an existing profile that didn't use CEM before, the new Office install honors that. But if someone logs into a machine with Office 2010 where they haven't logged on before, it starts them out in Outlook with CEM turned on. Here are the pertinent OCT settings I've used so far: Features/Modify User Settings/Microsoft Outlook 2010/Account Settings/Exchange/Cached Exchange Mode:…

After a successful deploy, it is still 17 Office Updates when I hit the Windows Update. So, is there a way in OCT to add the NEWEST Office Updates in OCT GUI before deploy via SCCM? Best regards, Kenny Continue reading...

When printing multiple copies, my HP Officejet 6500A slows to a crawl. Printer preferences are set to spool documents and to start printing immediately. TaskMaster shows MsMpEng.exe sucking down 90+% of the cpu and spool getting 5% or less of the cpu. This always happens whenever I print. The only way that I can reduce the amount of cpu that MS Security Essentials suck up is by unchecking Monitor file and program activity on your computer under Real-time Protection. Changing the selection from Monitor all files to Monitor only outgoing files has no affect. Obviously, taking this action puts my computer at risk. What can I do to improve print speed?? I …

Hello All. I recently installed Microsoft Security Essentials and am now having an issue with an FTP program that I use. The software is updated regularly and when I try to install these updates MSE is causing the installer to hang for up to 3 minutes. Prior to installing MSE, these updates would complete in less than 30 seconds. The program that I am using is FlashFXP. I contacted the developer and he said that he was aware of this problem because other users were reporting similar issues. So I then decided to go into the settings for MSE and exclude FlashFXP from detection/real time protection. Even with those settings in place, the updates are still ha…

When I pass my cursor over the Tools button on the IE browser menu bar the browser freezes. This happens with IE8 and IE9. When I pass the cursor over the other Menu Bar buttons, such as File or Edit, the drop down menus appear. I can make choices from all of the menu bar buttons except the Tools button. The Tools button is completely non-functional. Also, when I try using the Microsoft "Fix It" program to automatically reset Inernet Explorer I get a message that I do not have administrative rights on the machine. It is my machine and I am the only administrator. Continue reading...

My serer had a power supply problem which affected the system to the point where it wouldn't start every time. The initial thought was a bad boot disk, but after testing it was discoverd it was the power supply was the cause. In the process I had move the system from the original boot drive to a new one. During the process the raid drive would or would not be seen on boot. This would cause the system to take up to 30 minutes to boot up. When running disk manager wouldn't easily find the raid drives, this process could take several hours without positive results. I finally decided to replace the power supply and that helped. Drives were identified on boot, restarts was d…

Computer at work is having issues. I work for a daycare that uses this computer for games for the kids. For the past few days, when we turn it on, the mouse will not move. The mouse device is plugged in and is lit up. The only way I have been able to make it work is by restarting the computer and turning the Mouse port off and then on in the Bios (excuse my spellin if that is wrong) and then starting the computer back up again. Everyone is very frustrated. Im wondering if anyone knows what the real problem is and how I can fix it. It happens about 90% of the time when we turn on our computer. We have tried different mouses and unplugging and plugging them back …
