I can get to the internet via firefox/explorer, but can't get Essentials Update to go thru. I get error 8024401b. I also can't connect to Windows Help & Support. I get the following message: You're not connected to online Help, which shows you our latest content. Check your Internet connection, and then try to connect to online Help again. If you still see this message, the online Help service might be temporarily unavailable. Same problem with Yahoo Messenger, Curse Client, etc. They all say check my connection. In my windows xp pro computer, the computer locks up when it goes into screen saver. This is a new installation and started after I installed the video drivers that came with the motherboard. My only recourse is to restart the computer, only untill the screen saver comes on. I've used multiple installation discs with the same results. I installed SP2. Is this a motherboard/cpu issue? I just recieved a phone call from someone who was obviously a telemarketer by the background noise, who stated their name and where they were calling from but after asking him to repeat it (numerous times) because I couldn't understand him, he then said he was from Microsoft. Then he repeated something about them receiving information that we were unsecure and that I should get on my computer and get him a number off it. yeah right! I am wondering if it is possible to run loadstate in offline mode, I have seen some resources say you can, and some resources say that you cannot. I have tried myself and I get the error "use /offline to run gather on this platform". But it loadstate doesn't even seem to support the /offline switch , at least as far as I can tell. Is there a way to load AMD raid drivers when booting from the offline security essentials beta disk I created? That is a step the offline beta is missing. I'm using Windows 7 home premium X64. I am using Vista SP2 with automatic updating. I downloaded security essential for the virus protection. It somehow uninstalled Security Center. I can not start Security Center, Firewall, or Defender. I tried pausing Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) and deleting C:\Windows|System32\webm\repository, resumed WMI. Repository rebuilt, but Security Center is still missing even after reboot. hi, i recently put windows defender offline on Cd, it boots up fine and tries to start but then it says the definitions need to be updated and since the computer is only booted from CD it cant reach the internet to update the files. Beta 4 Slow to load on boot ... Running Microsoft Security Essentials beta 4 on Vista. When I boot, it takes some time for the green castle to appear in the tray. So much time, in fact, that I get the red shield and the popup “WARNING: You are unprotected” (or whatever the wording is) for 10-15 seconds until the castle turns green. This is pretty much a clean machine with not all that much else that loads on boot. I also tried killing everything at startup except MSE using MSCONFIG, and it still takes a while to show up green in the tray. One would think that MSE would be the very first thing to load as it is, the bad guys have plenty of time to walk in unobs…

Somebody performed a complete system restore, in an attempt to restore it back to the factory settings. A back up was not completed prior to this. Now when the computer is turned on it just displays a screen telling me to insert the installation disk. Continue reading...
