just been scammed by someone claiming to be Microsoft saying I had a hacker onto my laptop. They asked me to run www.support.me in the run box and enter the 6 digit ms version number. It took out my firewall all day yesterday, switching off every time I turned it on. Came to use it after reloading the software last night and the mcafee has disappeared - icon still there but when clicked on it says "navigation to the web page was cancelled" and that white notification cannot be closed except in task manager. A bt technician managed to reload the bt netprotect / mcafee today but after closing down the laptop and going back to it a couple of hours later it has wiped the mcaf…

System is running XPP SP3, MSUPDATES show no pending (new) updates. Tried to run MS FixIT program but didn't resolve problem. Tried to rename C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution folder to .old but didn't fix problem either. Switched back to Windows Updates then back to Microsoft Updates but didn't fix problem. Checked for viruses and spyware, everything came back clean. This is the only system in network having this problem. As far as I can tell there are about 132 high priority updates not being displayed for installation. Looks like something is corrupted not sure of steps to restart download MS Updates catalogs. Any Ideas? Continue reading...

Hello Everyone, Let me provide some background information on our environment and my process for imaging currently. We will be moving to SCCM soon so a lot of this will be a moot point but I do have to get some stuff deployed now. We are currently utilizing Altiris 6.9 SP5, but basically I have it just launching our WinPE Environment and run the needed scripts. 1. I do a Diskpart to whack all partitions and disks, and then I do a scripted install of Windows 7 x64 w/ SP1 to my reference machine 2. I do the Windows Updates, Join it to our domain, install all our needed apps, enable the Local Administrator Account, and log into the machine with the Local Admin account. …

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 8600 notebook from a retail store that included a Windows XP PRO (not home edition) many moons ago. I no longer have the Product ID Key jacket that the original Windows disk came with. I was able to open the disk in a friend's laptop, and under the folder named: "i386", I opened the file UNATTEND.txt, I found that "MY" purchased original Windows disk has a Product Key of (CD6RM-J678V-2Y2FV-KRYJ4-PBWKW). FYI - Although I know minor html and programming, I am computer savvy with fixing computers however, I am very disappointed to have returned to the U.S. State to find that I cannot re install Windows like I am an amateur. I have also read th…
