Hello I have this laptop that I use for just two programs that I cannot run on my Apple. Last week it gave me an error message that I did not know how to recover from so I wiped the entire thing and re-installed Windows from scratch. I only use it a few times a week and everytime it needs a million updates that I always install. Today it ran fine a few hours ago but then it crashed and gave me a "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt. C:\windows\system32\config\system." error message. Whats up with this? The computer was wiped, has basically nothing on it and I have to start over again??? I'm no computer expert but it must have so…

I reformatted my Windows 7 Ultimate dirve today and reinstsalled my Ultimate upgraded from scratch. It had been Validated, Activated and running for about 6 to 8 months. When I entered the Product Key this time I received the following message: "The product key is not valid. Please retyp the product key." Of course I have retype the key many times with the same results. I also compared it to a printed copy of Belarc Advisor that I made just before reformatting. The key code on the Windows 7 packaging, the Belarc Advisor printout, and what I am typing all agree. Anyone have any ideas or advice? Continue reading...

I have a training server with Office 2010 installed. This is a new machine and at random times I have received the following error. Excel is not open when this happens and I have not find a solution that applies to windows server 2008. The machine has all the latest updates, and looking at the hhctrl.ocx file, it seems to be the original file and not have been modified by updates. Thank you. Microsoft pushed a bunch of updates onto my system - and now I am unable to log into some web sites that are using java scripts for their logon processing. I had the problem with IE8: Checked for rogue versions the jscript.dll, none found. dll is in the windows\system32 and the windows\syswow64 directories I checked the forums and it was recommended to register the dll again. I did that via regsrv32 and using the full path to both directories. Rebooted. No joy. Then found that it could be a setting in IE. I went to Tools > internet options > security > custom level > "Active Scripting" , but Enable was already checked. I then upgraded to IE9 to see…

Hi, I have a XP machine a LAN interface having single IP address: 192.168.1.100 and Gateway: 192.168.1.1. The 192.168.1.1 is a router which forwards the packet to a destination(Router-C) through cloud-A. If the link to the Cloud A is down it will forward the packet to 192.168.1.3 (Router-B) And the Router-B will forward the packet to destination. At that time the PC adds a routing entry in local database for the particular destination the gateway is 192.168.1.3. If the link comes up in router-A, the destination can be reached through Router-A only. But the pc is not forwarding packet to 192.168.1.1 because of the dynamic routing entry. How to clear the route cache i…

Greetings, I'm not entirely sure if this is the best place to post this issue, as it spans a little into Windows 7. This issue has been plaguing me for the last couple of days I have two Guardian Maximus external RAID enclosures (http://bit.ly/rrSQd), one of which shows up perfectly fine in XP, using every type of cable it has a port for, while the other will only show up under the "safely remove hardware" icon. The problem drive will not show up in Disk Management or using the diskpart "list disk" command either. So far I have resorted to formatting the drive in question using Windows 7, which will see the drive via both USB and FireWire (didn't have an e-Sata port)…

I then tried to uninstall the program but it does not show up on the programs list in teh uninstall window of Control Panel. If i go to my file folders it is under my Program Files (x86) folder. How do I either cure the problem or remove it from my computer. Continue reading...

(This item will be cross posted to Office 2010 forum as well) When i try to 'save as' in IE, I can click to my heart's content, and nothing downloads. No window asking me for a download location. Right-clicking the file and using 'save target as' also yields no download. Platform: win7 pro\x32 in a domain environment with IE 9.0.4. Also office 2010 x32 (and incidentally, the same behaviour happens with Outlook attachments, but that is beyond the scope here I think) What I've tried: -problem persists across multiple user profiles on one machine only. Verified on other machines in the same domain that they can save-as with no issue. Ran GPO modelling against same user, …

In the spirit of the holiday season, we offer a new HTML5 experience that makes the most of your PC hardware and the new touch capabilities in Windows 8. Check out Let It Snow and get ready for a GPU-powered snow storm. This experience brings together hardware-accelerated HTML5 canvas, SVG, CSS, and more. On Windows Developer Preview with support for multi-touch in IE10, you can reach out and brush the snow off the sign and reveal a holiday message -or just use your mouse. If you think your browser can keep up, kick it up to 1000 snowflakes. If it's more of a flurry than a blizzard, try it with IE9 (or IE10) using the hardware acceleration built into the browser. I recently deployed Office 2010 Pro on a laptop that originally had no issues with Office, but now anytime the user tries to open an Office document, spreadsheet, etc. a security warning is displayed that the document is trying to be opened from the Internet. The files reside on a file server running Windows Storage Server 2008 on the same subnet that the computer experiencing the issue is on. I am in a single forest/single domain AD environment. No other computers with Office 2010 are experiencing this issue. My assumption is that the user inadvertently turned this security feature on and I would greatly appreciate any assistance in turning the feature off. Thank you. …

For all you computer experts, before you ask, yes I really AM a novice. I'm confused - the MSE states its automatic so why is it not scanning automatically? My setting is to scan Sunday night at 2am, so my big question is: Do I have to leave my computer switched ON all night? If so where does the "automatic" come into it? Do I have to remember every Sunday night to leave my computer on??? Please advise me Many thanks. Continue reading...
