By: Paul Thurrott As expected, Yahoo’s board of directors is considering selling off the struggling company’s Asian assets in order to raise money and stave off a death spiral. These assets include the well-regarded Alibaba Group in China as well as Yahoo’s Japanese affiliate. Continue reading...

I'm thinking of changing my OS from Win 7 32 bit to Win 7 64 bit. This requires a clean installation. Should I uninstall Office 2010 before cleaning my hard drive, or will the new installation and license activation work if I don't uninstall Office 2010 frirst? The installation will be on the same computer/ Continue reading...

I have been fighting this thing for over a week with now 5 different spyware/virus programs...I believe it is part of the "xp antivirus 2012" exploit but I am not sure. I found the "ping.exe" eating system resources through task manager and when I shut it down, it just came back. I know enough about machines and networking to know ping.exe should not be running on it's own nor should it "return" after being shut down...that was clue number one...then I found the _ex-68 running from a temp folder...and nothing should be running from a temp folder. I deleted them manually and **** hit the fan. Blue screen. I used system retore and got my junk back up and running, but now I …

Hello everyone, We have a website running in IIS7 that our agency uses as it's document repository for informational documents, mostly PDF's and Word Documents. When a PDF is updated and posted on the site, the users do not get the newer version of the PDF when they click the link. Instead they get the older version in their Cache. We can not change the file name or the URL to the file as that would require our administrative staff to make drastic changes each time they update a document. The webpage has permanent links to the files located on a share. The share is where the staff place the update documents in. This way we don't have to redo the HTML links each time…

IE 9.0 always shows cached version of PDF file not updated one. Can i know what is the cause of this issue in IE. Actually same issue was occur in IE 8.0 but i've changed security setting to default. As a result, IE8.0 shows updated PDF not from cache version. But same workaround doesn't sort out this issue in IE 9.0. I'd appreciate to providing solution to this. Continue reading...

It says it was unsuccessful, but if I choose to Run, instead of Download, it will install the program I want without a problem. Hello, In the process of Deploying Office 2010 via a Network installation point and would like to include Service Pack 1 AND security software updates with the initial Office 2010 installation. I understand the process is to download the EXE updates and extract the MSP files to be copied into the UPDATE folder - as per technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178995.aspx#DeployInitialUpdViaUpdatesFolder The one problem i have with this process is duplicate MSP file names. For example if i download and extract Excel2010-kb2553070-fullfile-x86-glb.exe then i have a "excel-x-none.msp" file to add to the UPDATE folder. If i then download excel2010-k…

I have tried to set up our deployment of office to remove any admin involvement which would be fine if we only had an exchange account. we currently need: Exchange e-mail account IMAP e-mail account (for our dms) LDAP lookup address book however (the LDAP I've mentioned in another post) the latter 2 don't work as desired and there are 3 problems: 1 - The IMAP does work but it's then set as the default account which is not what we want, as the exchange account is set up on first logon it's then not the default account. 2 - The IMAP doesn't have any folder set as the sent items folder, and I need that to be the exchange sent items (the IMAP doesn't actually have a se…

We have a nominally customised Office 2010 setup that we use for deployment which works ok-ish. If the LDAP address book is included, however, it comes back as 'bad search filter' when you try to lookup a name on it. If you set it up manually (either by deleting the one that's set up as part of the deployment or by setting it up on a vanilla copy of office 2010) then it works absolutely fine with EXACTLY the same settings as the msp version. I'm at a loss! Continue reading...

Hi, I have been gradually replacing all our XP PCs and the new ones run Windows 7. I've already replaced about 30 and not had this problem before. When I replace the PC I either remove the old one form the domain and set the IP DHCP, then assign the old name and IP to the new PC. This has worked fine until now. The new PC in question lets me add it to the domain as usual but when I try to log in after the restart it gives me the error: "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship." I have searched around and it seems like a lot of people have got this error but none of the fixes work for me. I have tr…

We have requirement for OS installation to Call Center/Training Center Users and most difficult thing is to manage this kind of environment. We need every day workstation to be fresh. As I know there are couples of workarounds to for this kind of requirement. 1: SCCM (schedule to Push OS template (with all required Application) from the Network, so it does automatically install everything from SCCM) 2: Desktop Virtualization. But both options need both more hardware/storage and administrative effect to setup (SCCM, .etc.) But if we have kind of snapshot (OS itself), after setup every things, just take snapshot from OS itself (like from control Panel, and may limit…
