I ran into this problem a few hours ago and have been pulling my hear out. Autorepairs diagnose the problem as a problem with the partition table, but is unable to automatically fix it Ive gone into diskpart and confirmed that the partition was active. I reset the MBR thought bootrec, bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force Success on all three windows partitions manually creating the BCD initially works. I can create the store, but when i run bcdedit /import i get an error saying the store does not exist. I am desperately trying to avoid an os reinstall. I got a new computer w/Windows 7 and Windows Media Player 12. I'm trying to get my overdrive account working to download audio files and need to install a security update on my media player. It doesn't automatically start downloading the file like it should. I tried going to http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp to manually do it, but with Mozilla I'm unable to select the "upgrade" button and with Internet Explorer it lets me try to upgrade just to tell me that the upgrade failed. After 12 months of trying to update OEM Win 7 to SP1 and recently trying to upgrade to Win Pro (WUA), I am giving up and assuming there is no simple answer or any answer from MS. The error on SP1 is Fail_Error:(0x80004005). On Win Pro - not successful. I`ve tried everything I could find on forums and nothing works. No scan errors. Clean boot. No antivirus. After installing (86) Windows updates for my XP Media Center edition, I'm unable to get my ethernet card to function. It functions fine BEFORE updates are installed. Unable to fix problem, diagnosis says broadcom card is "working", but unable to obtain IP address. Doing system restore, solves problem, until I reload/install updates again. Very frustrating. My company just got a new Windows 7 64 bit laptop that came with Internet Explorer 9. We need to have Internet Explorer 8 installed on the computer for certain processes we run. I looked online and can't find a IE8 install for windows 7. We have a few Windows 7 32 bit computers we got before IE 9 came out that have IE8 pre-installed on them so I know that IE8 works on Win 7. All the versions I have found will give me an error on install like, "Internet Explorer 8 not compatible with this OS". I got a messae from Windows Security Essentials that I had spyware on my system and prompted if I wanted it removed. I clicked the remove button and ran the following exec. afterwards I was shutdown as usual. When I signed back on a message appeared (and is still there) that says "Test Mode Windows 7 Build 7601" and is there everytime I log on. What does this mean and how do I remove it?
