Not sure how this has gone completely unnoticed. But, if it has been noticed, I haven't found it anywhere. I spent the better part of the day tracking down a problem in which ACCESSDE.DLL still builds the /12.0/ hive into the Trusted Locations key when building a deployment package. I patched the thing myself but one might have thought that the resulting application constantly requesting authority to run built-in automation would have been caught by QA. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Access\Security\Trusted Locations\ Should be: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Access\Security\Trusted Locations Just in case anyone else cares, this …

I am trying to build an unattend file that will do 3 or 4 things. I want to minimize the amount of prompts (is it possible to have the sysprep program prompt for the IP configuration)? Below are the four tasks that I would like it to accomplish 1. prompt for the computer name 2. create a local account and rename the administrator account (do I have to do this with setupcomplete.cmd) 3. prompt for a static IP / SN/ GW 4. join the domain Continue reading...

Per the USMT guide http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd560792(WS.10).aspx network printers are supposed to transfer along with mapped drives. I've reviewed both my scanstate and loadstate log files and neither are shedding light on why this transfer isn’t occurring. In the config.xml file i've changed the following entries to "yes": Anyone have any ideas? Continue reading...

I built a computer and I've been trying to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit onto the SATA hard drive I bought. When I go into the BIOS, the hard drive is listed, however when I boot using the Windows 7 disc and it asks me where to install Windows 7, the hard drive isn't listed. The worst part is that when I click on Load Drivers > Browse, the hard drive is listed as "Boot (X:)". I have tried this with the 32-bit version as well just to see if it made a difference, and it didn't. Windows 7 sees the hard drive, but won't let me install onto it. I'm assuming the hard drive isn't faulty because both the BIOS and Windows 7 list it at some point or another, and the cabl…

Hello, On computers with SiS 671 aka SiS Mirage 3 graphics (newest version from WHQL - published 04/04/2009 according to windows update), installing SP1 fails with a black screen after reboot and can only be reverted by booting into safe mode as many times as required for the automatic 'rollback' of the SP1 to work and then booting to last known working configuration. Replacing the driver with "Standard VGA" allows the SP1 to be installed successfully. I'm now testing whether the driver can be installed after SP1 installation. Continue reading...

I have a JavaScript which is grabbing a result set on dom ready and injecting it into an empty element. The service call and injection is going great, but when I "view source" OR use the F12 Dev Tools OR try to Print OR Print Preview, the html and print preview looks stale, and does not include the already injected html. In the F12 Dev Tools, when I try to select a displayed element which was injected, it does not register in the source view window, and I cannot inspect it. My specific need is to print the page, but I this is simply not working. It works fine in IE 8, Chrome, FF, etc. What is wrong, or what am I missing? Thanks in advance. Continue reading...

Hi All, Recently, sql server books on line application stopped showing HTML content. The content pane uses IE with URLs such as: ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v10/MS.SQLSVR.v10.en/s10de_6tsql/html/76763ac8-3e0d-4bbb-aa53-f5e7da021daa.htm The content is stored locally. Instead of seeing HTML, I get the content as plain text XML which is "not very readable" -) The top of the page gives a warning bar stating: "The webpage might not be displayed properly. The content of the webpage does not match the type specified by the server. Click here for options". If I click "Options", and then click "Show restricted content" it displayes HTML correctly but i need to repeat this for every pag…

I was not able to view videos using Internet Explorer version 8.0.7601.17514 256-bit on Windows 7. The same videos display on Mozilla Firefox. When I installed a browser debugger, HttpWatch Basic, the videos started working on IE! When I disabled the add-on the videos still work! Any idea what changed the browser behavior? I jsut set up an account with a VPN server company. I installed OpenVPN 2.2.2 in Windows 7 Professional within Program Files (x86). The VPN i showing as connected, but when I open IE 9, it is not routing through the VPN and is instead surfing through a normal, local Internet Server. Is there some sort of scripting that has to be included into the Internet Tools/Connections/Lan settings within IE9 to get it to point to the connected openvpn gui? Continue reading...

Important Details: External users for my company work in a Terminal Server environment using Windows XP SP3 on servers running Windows Server 2003 R2 Problem: The max. profile size a user can have is 40MB and the data being stored in the CryptURLCache\Content folder can at times exceed 25MB - is there a way to remove these files and ensure they will not be recreated? In general the files are very small, averaging about 5kb in size however some are created and use up more than half of our users profile size causing logon issues and profile problems. Every time I delete the files they recreate when the user logs back into the terminal server. I am aware of what these fi…
