I clicked the remove button and ran the following exec. afterwards I was shutdown as usual. When I signed back on a message appeared (and is still there) that says "Test Mode Windows 7 Build 7601" and is there everytime I log on. What does this mean and how do I remove it? Any ideas what this could be? My laptop would not boot up so I tried reinstalling XP home edition and received this message. I have reinstalled this XP several times before. The recovery won't even recognize the drive and when I try to bring it up in safe mode of any type, it stops and say it can't bring it up in safe mode. It wouldn't come up with the last good configuration file either. The installation went as far as formatting the drive, installing some of the files and stops with this error during the installation phase. I have tried a Linux USB image to see if I could get to the drive but it doesn't even show up as an available drive. I also tried a harddisk …

I mean do I really need it? I have upgraded from W7 Home Prem to W7 Ultimate and so I presume the Factory.Wim is out of date anyway? I have added RAM and a second disk drive since then. Is the Factory.wim actually a Recovery disk itself? If so and I really do not need the space taken up by this recovery partition then I presume it would pay to erase the original and recreate it. Or am I missing something? Continue reading...

I can still use the keyboard when the mouse freezes. Download of MSE fixed it and found two trojans. When it froze again, the scan did not find any viruses but it still frees up the mouse after reboot. What can I do to stop it from freezing? It's an old mouse, the kind that plugs into the mouse port on the back of the computer. The trojans removed by MSE were 1) Trojan:Java/Clagent.B and 2) Tojan Downloader: Java/Cethry.A Things I have tried 1) turn computer off, unplug and replug mouse, reboot -doesn't work (and various versions of this with another mouse in the same port) 2) device manager does not show any mouse properties under hardware, but I can not install a mou…

I have 64 days left on my Norton security 2011 and am thinking of using MS Security Essentials when the Norton term ends. The British Which magazine suggests that the MS free software is far better than the Norton product but only refers to a firewall as part of the Windows 7 OS. Can someone please advise. New installation of Office 2010. Old Office 2007 profiles were deleted after uninstalling everything but Project 2003 and Visio 2007. Created a new Exchange profile the first time Outlook 2010 started, and this profile works correctly when Outlook starts normally, HOWEVER... Every time I boot up and log in, Outlook.exe runs and throws the error "No Outlook Profiles have been created...." It's not clear to me why Outlook.exe is run at all upon boot-up, and this error looks like some defect in the program. I have already tried completely uninstalling Outlook 2010, and disabling all startup programs that could call Outlook (Sage Act! connector, for example). After a cl…

I installed IE 9 on a desktop running on Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit. It screwed up some of my web sites beyond belief. I could not use Newegg at all. As soon as I selected a product category, it would show some weird text menus across the top of the screen and no products at all. I also lost my NOAA satellite imagery web site: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/satellite.shtml. (It displayed almost nothing.) These same web sites displayed properly with IE 9 on a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit. I had to un-install IE 9 and go back to IE 8 on the desktop. I would really like to use IE 9 on the desktop, but I can't figure out how to fix these display proble…

In Internet Explorer 9 if I go to Compatibility View List and enter in a site... say nothere.com Where on the computer is that information stored? Somewhere in the registry or a file in the users application data folder? Some sort of encrypted database perhaps? I have tried searching the registry and have found nothing... also tried windows search to search contents of files.... Does anybody know where that data is stored? Thank you... My intentions is to simply utilize our existing logon scripts to insert sites in or out of there for different users... not on a per machine basis or having the same sites for all users...
