IE8 Crashes on Startup
by Guest Pronetserv- 0 replies

In the last ten days, I have had two Windows XP Professional computers (one newer Dell Optiplex and one white box) with current updates and service packs (SP3) develop a problem with IE8. Upon executing the application, it crashes immediately without displaying any browser interface. Extensive research did not turn up a problem identical to the problem the two computers experienced although there were some that were close. I employed the posters' recommended fixes with no luck. Here is what I did on both computers, in the order completed, to attempt a fix. I restarted the computers after each step. Scan using Symantec Endpoint Protection version 12.1 - no viruses. …

rundll exception when opening xp security center?
by Guest minnmike- 0 replies
Hi All, I noticed a couple of my programs weren't running, and so then I tried to open xp's security center and it would not open, got an error message instead. The message was in a box labeled RunDLL, and the message was "an exception occurred while trying to run c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll, Control_runDLL "C:\Windows\system32\wscui.cpl", Security Center". This is a Windows XP laptop, service pack three. I have done a file scan using the install CD, with no success, and I have also reinstalled service pack 3, with no success. I've scanned for viruses using malwarebytes, and found nothing. Programs that have stopped working include Evernote and Personal Brain. Seems…

IE8 causing CSS position absolute to float 80px+ to the right.
by Guest BizBook BBS Web Site- 0 replies
IE8 has been causing my CSS on a few pages with position absolute to float 90px to the right, resetting IE8 back to the original settings from the advanced tab has fixed the issue. But I found that every system I have tried in the last few days are doing the same thing, so I am thinking it is an update that is causing the browser to not work properly with CSS. My visitors will never figure out how to fix this issue and will not purchase my services because of this issue. There is no way to adjust the markup to still work with the browser not working correctly, or to detect the update error and tell my visitors how to fix it without making my web site appearing to be poor…

I have a Dell Latitude E6410 ATG loaded with Win 7. My career requires software for PLC programming using Rockwell Automation SW. I have platforms of Rockwell that use Win 7, and legacy platforms of Rockwell that require XP Service Pack 3 for older automation systems. I bought a second identical hard drive to swap out when I am with a customer that has automated equipment written for XP, and will be swapping out the drives when this occurs. I do not know what is required to load my XP operating system on the second hard drive. Can anyone provide me with a step-by-step procedure to load the XP operating system on the second drive so that it will work on my Dell ATG la…

Automatic logon from IE using FQDN
by Guest NetEng1- 0 replies
We have a Silverlight based internal website (IIS7.5) that uses Report Services from SQL Server 2008 R2. Clients are using IE8. We are using SSL/HTTPs to connect the clients to the website and the Report Server. Both services are running on a single Windows 2008 server using windows integrated authentication. The certificate for SSL is a self-signed one produced by IIS and the Report server uses the same one. We imported the certificate in IE8 to the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" to eliminate the certificate error page. The certificate requires the Fully Qualified Domain Name ie. server.domain.com, so when using the FQDN, we no longer get the error page. Howeve…

I have an ASUS P5Q-EM motherboard with built-in graphics. The graphic chip is the Intel G45 chipset. I'm running Windows Enterprise, 64-bit. The second monitor is not being detected. If I go to Display | Change Display Settings | Advanced Settings, I end up at the property page. I selected the tab for the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver, and then clicked on "Graphics Properties". That brought a dialog which a dropown that has "Single Display". It has no other entry (an entry for "Dual Display" would have been nice.) I also tried selecting "Add a Device" from the Control Panel. That didn't give me any options except to cancel. And I also tried "Scan f…

I check the history and settings of MSE. I run scans. And still the icon is gold and has an exclamation point in it. When I click on it and open MSE, it still says that I have not run a scan lately. Default Line Spacing in MS Word 2010 once again
by Guest MartyFranek- 0 replies
The Microsoft Word 2007/2010 development team has decided that it is easier to read text that has line spacing set at 1.15 and so made it the default in both versions of the program. That's all well and good except that I work for managers that insist on configuring their MS Word 2010 software to default to line spacing of 1.0 each and every time they open the program and start creating Word 2010 documents. I know that there was another thread discussing this last winter but they did not address my need to make the default line spacing of 1.0 persist from session to session, document to document. Or did I miss something. Continue reading...

Script to disable file sharing of the local C drive.
by Guest Emllik- 0 replies
I was looking for a script that would disable the sharing of the c: drive on a local machine that could be loaded into the start up. The problem is we have a group policy that enables the sharing of the c: drive on all machines. Only administrators can do this which is fine but we have a couple of groups of folks that have proprietary data on the drives that do not need to be seen by everybody. The big problem is that the company refuses to move them to a separate group or just disable the service altogether. Everything is done in house but they totally refuse to do anything about it. I do not think the people upstairs really care and I think the AD Group is just putting…
