Microsoft security essentials detected trojandownloader:win32\agent.yp... tried the remove option and it would say it was removed however upon restart of the system the detection would reappear. through much searching on the issue i then ran...CCLEANER and also ADVANCED SYSTEM SECURITY to clean up junk files, malware, registry and what not. System seemed to be clean afterwards...no more detections in security essentials, however this morning, recent programs does not show up in the start menu and 90% of my programs in the all programs folder show up as HIGHLIGHTED just like if they would have been JUST INSTALLED. everything is working fine, all programs open up and work a…

Dear Microsoft / Community, We are experiencing problems with missing keystrokes in IE8 and I hope someone can help! We are using ORACLE's Siebel CRM as our CRM system. Siebel is a web-based application using Internet Explorer and ActiveX. For years, everything was working fine, but with the introduction of IE8 some users started to experience missing keystrokes while typing in Siebel popup windows. For example the text "I am using Internet Explorer" might become something like "I a usng IntenetExplrer". First we started to replace their keyboards, but it did not show any effect. It definately is not related to the keyboard. So I searched the internet and found variou…

I am continuing to get a synchronizing files error after a server is no longer existent. I uncheck synchronize with the server and it is still trying to synchronize. It doesn't seem to stop trying to synchronize with the server even when I tell it not and delete all the files that it may be trying to synchronize. I even tried to delete all references to the old server in regedit and it continues to try to synchronize. Please help. It is taking my users an extra 30 seconds to log on with the synchronization error. Thank you for your help. Continue reading...

Hello all, I seemed to have run into some problems regarding my attempt to run Windows Easy Transfer when switching someone over from an XP box to a Windows 7 box. At first, everything seemed to go pretty well. There was one curiosity when the woman was not able to print from the previously configured network printer, but I just removed the old connection and reestablished it. This worked fine for several days until it crapped out again. The second time, though, I was not able to reconnect the printer and was constantly told that the print spool service was stopped under the one login (under my own everything was fine. . .I even attempted to make the user a local adm…

I think the crashes have been caused by some files in some very popular applications which have very long filepaths. they show up worst on XP boxes, which have a very long APPDATA. some file trees in APPDATA are extremely long, and including the username, exceed 260 characters maximum filepath length for a file (MAX_PATH in the C++ compiler). one file I was looking at was 264 characters. this has been causing crashes in anything that walks a directory tree which uses char arrays for filepaths. so this is a security issue. Apps this problem can cause to crash or work incorrectly are: backup. disk cloning. file finding/locating (like whereis or file counting for…

the configuration i am working on, does not use a windows update server on the network, and there is no problem using the default windows update service directly from microsoft, there is a problem however in that if the update manager is set to only notify about updates and not automaticaly install them, then on the next install of updates, it changes that to automaticaly install all updates as it feels necessary. is there a way to prevent it from changing this setting, so that it can't decide to automaticaly install updates?
