Currently, users are logging in to the domain using their domain account. Domain account is of first initial last name format (ie JDoe). I want to change their domain account username to firstname.lastname (John.Doe). What steps do I have to take to have the change over successfully? Besides changing the logon username in ADUC, are there any other fields I would have to change to make sure there is no trace of first initial last name? Hello, When our IT staff deploys computers, we generally build a base Windows image, and then create an image (using Ghost). We then deploy this to computers and we join the computer to a domain. Now, I realize this is not a supported practice by Microsoft, but I have seen postings from MS MVP's that the computer SID will change when you add a computer to a domain, and we have not had duplicate SID's utilizing this method before. However, we have just built an image with SP3 and deploying that as we usually have, and figuring the SID has changed upon joining the domain. This has not been happening. I purchased Office Professional Plus 2010 and installed it successfully. I also purchased a language pack for Brazilian Portuguese and installed it with no problem. The language package supposed installed the proofing tool so I would be able to use the spell checker in a document when writing in Portuguese. The problem is that when I open a Word document to set the language of the document to Portuguese under Review>Language>Set Proofing Language I see the option for Portuguese (Brazil) but there is no spell checker next to it, which means I cannot use the spell checker for a document whose language was set to Portuguese. I have "ownership" of 2000 computers. Recently, I discovered that many of them were not applying GPO (EG: We put in a WSUS GPO & found that it was not getting applied.). Further digging discovered that some of our base images have the registry.pol files (under \windows\system32\group policy\xxx) so locked down that the system account could not modify them. At this time, I have created a SMS package that eases the permissions on the registry.pol files - but I have no way to test to see if group policy is being applied across all the computers. EG: If I could change the client-side targeting group is wsus, I could verify that GPOs are being applied, but this is not …

I have a Windows XP machine (SP3) in a domain enviornment. The computer is properly setup in the domain enviornment (assuming this, because I can log in as domain administrator and all users get the startup script ran which maps some drives for them). I am attempting to edit the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate In particular - the key: WUServer I am trying to input the WSUS server name there (which is http://main) (main is the name of their domain controller running WSUS). I'm currently running some xp sp3 machines that require some updates a few .net fw updates and a root certificate update. When I click Install Updates they do install and then it tells me they completed. seconds later the yellow shield comes up and requires the same updates i just installed. I don't get an error either. I have an XP SP3 workstation that has stopped checking in with the WSUS server. (A little over a month ago, according to the WSUS console.) I have tried the command "wuauclt.exe /detectnow" several times, but it doesn't seem to do anything. The Windows Update service isn't showing in the Services list. It's not that it isn't running, it just isn't there on that machine, but the wuauclt.exe file is in the Sytem32 folder. I tried manually downloading and installing the latest automatic update agent, but the install failed, saying it didn't need to install because it already is. I have a mystery pop up that has started and acts like a virus pop up but is in the form of a search page. I have run MS malicious malware tool but it found nothing. I have also run 4 other alware removal programs and none have found anything. What is this and how do I get rid of it? It's become a constant nag pop up coming back after being closed every 30 seconds or then, then other times it goes away fro hours. There doesn't seem to have a pattern for showing up. Use W7 and bought Kstar UPS for my computer which runs Power Manager Lite 3.30 to monitor power and shut down my computer in the event of power failure. This has been working faultlessly for months through several security updates from Microsoft. After this weeks updates the Power Manager Lite software indicated that it was not operating when I try to open the software it gives an error message that the service cannot be started and the program will be closed. As I needed to be operational I restored to before the Windows updates and continued to work with everything operating as before. I have windows XP PRO SP3 and while trying to use the Fixit center trouble shooter to clearout or disable addons, toolbars, helpers the fixit program only lists the windows and microsoft addons ect. to remove. On the report that fixit makes it shows that this PC has an additional 48 toolbars,addons, and helpers that are not windows or microsoft products and does not provide an answer as to how to remove or disable them. The number of addons needs to be cleared out, I tried to open occache.dll but access is denied, I am also listed as the Admin. on this PC and I still get nowhere. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? During a complete fresh windows 7 home 32 bit installation on a brand new hard drive, the installation makes it to the last phase (completing installation). Then all of the sudden, the screen goes black with the cursor at the upper left and hangs there indefinately. I've tried to reboot and repair installation, no luck. I get the message "setup has detected legacy groove or microsoft groove server software on this system.
