Continue reading...

I have tried several removal tools including MSE and MS Safety Scanner, TDSSKILL, Super Antispyware and Malwarebytes. Some do not detect the trojan and the ones that do can not completely extract it. MSE finds it on every boot up but can not completely remove it. Trojan:DOS/Alureon.E malware is the name of the malware. Any suggestions on how to completely get to this thing to remove it? I understand that it has created a new partition where it resides and the removal efforts are blocked by a software restriction policy. Security Essentials encountered the following error: Error code 0x80070032. The request is not supported. Category: Trojan Description: This…

By Paul Thurrott With reports emerging that Microsoft intends to ship its delayed Skype client for Windows Phone "soon," I can now confirm that the software giant’s internal documentation has tagged the first half of 2012 for the release. This is the same documentation I used for the basis for two previous exclusive reports. Continue reading...

By Paul Thurrott Having previously declared my intention to pay much more attention to today’s dominant mobile platform in "Embracing Android", I’ve since been doing just that. First up, I’d like to describe my growing stable of Android-based devices, and explain how I’ll be targeting this ever-improving platform throughout 2012. Continue reading...

I am running Win 7, 64-bit. When I open IE 9, 64bit, some features of websites don't work properly e.g., the page doesn't open or a video won't run. When I open IE 9 32-bit, I access a website but when I click on a link to go to another feature, say printing a bank statement or something, I get a white page. No matter what I do, I cannot get anything to appear on that page. I have to close out the IE 32-bit and reopen with IE 64-bit to make it work. I have all the latest updates and security packages for my Microsoft products so this is not the issue. It's as if Flash and Active X components are only loaded for the 64-bit version but not the 32-bit one. I'm getting…

Continue reading...

Hi, I seem to be in an infitite loop with Microsoft Security Essentials trying to remove bamital!dat but it cannot remove it successfully. - Shortly after startup, security essentials detects the malware, suspends it, prompts me to clean it, which I say yes to. It cleans it and says to complete, you'll need to restart your computer. I say yes. - The computer restarts and the above cycle restarts all over again. Microsoft Security Essentials has failed to remove the threat. Thanks for the help. Continue reading...

Hey everyone! Ok, got a little challenge here, and haven't found a viable answer yet. Here it is: When you download say a .zip file from the internet, or another computer, it puts a "block" file security attribute on it. So if you don't right click on the zip, click properties, and click unblock - when you unzip it without removing that, all of the files in that zip will carry that "block" file attribute. So, here's the problem. I have about 15gb of zip files, that I've extracted and put the files and folders, in multiple places on my HDD. Furthermore, I have made modifications to some of those files. We're talking about too many files, to try and track down,…

Few years ago (I think with IE v.6 or so) I was evaluating Scrapbook, a great addin for FireFox, to edit and capture parts of the webpage. In doing this, I came across with a very great tip for IE (someone was asking: what have we for IE?): With a shortcut (a key combination) it was possible to edit text and remove images, or part of the webpage, just as it was seen in the main IE window, so that it could be printed or copy and past as we pleased. I cannot remember or recall, that shortcut. I just remember that when I used, I said: Wahoo, that's really great. Incredible. Searching now, I did not find anything. Just to repeat: it was not View/Source. It ws not Open in…

Well I went to RUN - msconfig - and hit the services tab. I turned them all on and the firewall will turn on now. Not real sure which one got turned off to begin with but it seems to work now. I turned some off to speed up my computer, I didn't need the firewall with Bit Defender 2012. I'll go back and turn some off and see if the firewall will still operate. In the Start Up tab I have disabled some programs there too, and that sped up the start up of my computer quite a bit. Continue reading...
