Hello. I've been trying for several hours now, to install Windows Vista 64 bits on my PC. Here are my specs. Asrock n68-vs3 UCC Athlon II X3 3.3ghz 2GB Kingston ddr3 1333 mhz Seagate Barracuda "7200" 200GB IDE HDD I have an IDE DVD drive but due to technical limitations I cannot connect both my HDD and my DVD drive to my IDE Connector on the Motherboard. Because of this I used my Windows Vista 64 bits DVD (which by the way is in perfect state and i have no reason to suspect data corruption) to create a Bootable Windows Vista USB. The system boots up to the installation screen and It does recognize the Drive and both its partitions, but I get the MSG "Unable to …

I have a user running XP with SP3 and the other day, they attached a USB flash drive and may have removed it, before the OS finished installing it. They did NOT use the “safely remove hardware” option, from the system tray. Now, the computer boots up however, no one can log onto the computer, for as soon as a user logs on, the computer promptly logs the user off, regardless of who the user is. I know this mimics the Virut virus/worm however, the user claims the USB drive scans clean and he/she never saw a virus/worm notice pop up. The PC is secured with the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials and the OS was fully patched. I would appreciate it if someone …

I purchased 2 Optiplex Dell computers from the company I work for (Ford Motor Company). The comps had been wiped, but they also gave me the laser etched instal CD. They both have the Windows product key sticker on them and one product key worked, but one did not. It gives me the error that "the Product ID you entered is not valid", but the key is coming from the original sticker on the computer. Doubled, triple checked the numbers to make sure they are correct and reentered them 5 times to no avail. Any suggestions as to what to do now. Continue reading...

from original naming of 'D' to 'F'. ALL commercial software CD's with the exception of MS FltSimX were easily able to identify the DVD/CD drive and begin a re-installation of their programs as part of my final restoration process. The MS Flight Sim X absolutely refused to 'engage' either autorun or through the control panel after many, numerous attempts, the Windows even 'froze'. Again this Flight Sim was the ONLY one that would not even begin the install process. I ask how could this be, if all others ran just fine? Could there be a limit as to the number of times an MS cd will allow install/re-install on the SAME PC? Any help will be gratefully appreciated......rhh r…

When clicking on the calendar function in Outlook 2010 I get the message "the path specified for the file D:\backupoutlook.pst is not valid". I then need to click OK and the cancel on the subsequent screen to stop the message from appearing. This only occurs the first time I start the calendar after starting Outlook 2010. I'm not sure how to turn this off. Any thoughts? Continue reading...

Today we introduce seven new language versions of IEBlog—French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), Korean, Japanese, Chinese (PRC), and Russian. Links to these appear in the new “Languages” block at the top of the right column. We plan to publish translated versions five to ten days after their appearance on the English language IEBlog. We’ve worked hard to localize most of the language elements on the page and in the posts themselves. Text within images will remain in English though we translate captions and image alt text. Markup and code samples will also remain in English. Occasionally, we’ll mistakenly translate an HTML, CSS, or JavaScript keyword please forgive us. The …

I had a virus on my computer that was discovered VERY recently and now microsoft security essentials protects against it apparently. But i am still concerned about if it's still there or not. This virus is classified as a backdoor:Java/krempun.a. it's condition is severe and i had two of them on my computer but good thing microsoft security essentials removed them it says. This is a link to the online info on the virus if you can help me please leave a comment i will be really greatful. P.S.. i couldn't find any info on the virus if you search what is a krempun.a virus... so it has to be a rare or new virus. Continue reading...

I have several new machines here with win7. I need to uninstall some OEM programs off of them. I have been trying to script something that would use the uninstall string in the registry. I have been somewhat successful except for the fact that UAC keeps preventing me from doing some installs, and while trying to uninstall some programs it is asking for approval or an ok or cancel even though i am running it silent. Does anyone have any ideas what i can use for a script to remove programs on these computers. I am also trying to streamline the process for future computer deployments.Jim Thomas Continue reading...
