Microsoft Comes Clean About New Windows Phone Update, Will No Longer Offer Update Guidance
by Guest Paul Thurrott- 0 replies

By: Paul Thurrott A few days after it provided a description of the new features and changes in the latest Windows Phone software update, Microsoft offered a bit of commentary about the update and, more alarmingly, revealed that it would be kicking its useful "Where’s My Phone Update?" web site to the curb. And I think I know exactly why this is happening. Continue reading...

Hi, I'm in the final stages of deploying Windows 7 and would like to automate the pinning of taskbar items for all users. I have located where the lnk files are stored under each user's roaming profile AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar, however simply copying precreated shortcuts to this location for all users does not work. Is there an automated way of doing this? Cheers Continue reading...

Hello, My battery backup unit died. When turning the computer back on it needed to run "CHKDSK". Computer turned itself off in the middle of running "CHKDSK". Restarted and interrupted check-disk request. Windows loaded ok but then said "Windows 7 - Build 7601 - This copy of Windows is not genuine. So I got out my DVDs and tried to re-activate. This is what I get: An error has occurred Code: 0x80070057 Description: The parameter is incorrect. Soon a bubble message popped up in the corner, "A change has been made ... Re install Windows. problem with Windows 7 DVD/USB Download Tool
by Guest psx790- 0 replies
Hi, I'm having trouble with Microsoft's Windows 7 DVD/USB Download Tool (the revised version). I tried running it on a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM install, with the 32 bit ISO of Windows 7 Ultimate RTM which I got from my Technet subscription, but I got an error saying "we were unable to copy your files". I was using an 8 GB LaCie USB flash drive. I then tried to use it at work on an XP Pro SP3 x86 install, with a 64 bit ISO of the last release candidate of Windows 7 that was available (didn't feel like re-downloading the RTM ISO, so I used what we had lying around to test), and I got the same error. The USB drive was formatted by the tool as NTFS correctly, th…

WDS - "Windows Setup cannot locate...."
by Guest JonasAndresen- 0 replies

Greetings fellow technet users. I have a question about Windows Deployment Services, specifically the multicasting feature within it . I'm currently testing the multicast feature in hope of using multicast instead of unicast in some siturations at work yet there's one problem that stands in the way of that to happen. When I try to multicast two similar computers with 80GB hard drives I get the following message: "Windows Setup cannot locate a valid hard drive to store temporary installation files. To install Windows, create more free space on the hard drive or add a new hard drive." My first thought was "Try a smaller image" so I tried to deploy a Windows 7 image (at…
