Add or Remove programs in the control paned
by Guest Bottomtime- 0 replies

I have two programs in the "Add or Remove" control panel, that will NOT uninstall and/or remove themselves. One program is Microsoft Silverlight program, and the other is the Nero 9 Essentials. I noticed that Microsoft has a solution that can be done manually, but I dare not do it because it involves getting into System 32, which I will not touch. How can I remove these two programs which I don't need or use? Any and all solutions and advise will be welcomed. Continue reading...

autounattend.xml & sysprep
by Guest John G. Heim- 0 replies
I'm blind and I'm trying to create an autounattend.xml file for a thumb drive that pretty much gets me all the way through the install. I'd rather not create a new disk image because I want to put partitioning info in the autounattend.xml and change it from time to time. I've got an autounattend.xml file that gets me most of the way. But I think it stops in the audit system pass and brings up a sysprep dialog box. I cannot really be sure what pass its in but after a couple of reboots, it brings up a dialog box that says its running sysprep. The dialog box has a checkbox for generalize and a dropdown list for rebooting. I would like it to automatically skip that dialog bo…

After running Windows Defender Offline on a Vista 32-bit system with the "Vista Security 2012" scare-ware virus, I have successfully stopped the virus, however I am not able to run any programs. Upon rebooting after running Windows Defender Offline, when I try to run a program, Windows Vista opens a window asking "which program would you like to open this file?" Anyone have any thoughts on this? Perhaps a Install disk "repair" might help? Thanks Britton Continue reading...

Setting up *persistent* access to Windows 7
by Guest inandout- 0 replies

I've upgraded an XP machine to W7 (fresh install), set up folder shares for access by a remote XP machine and they work fine for several hours (maybe half a day at most) then stop working. I get a message that remote system is not accessible and I "might not have permission to use this network resource". A reboot restores access/permissions again but only for a few hours. I can still see the W7 shares from another W7 machine just not from my XP machine anymore. Have setup access to be controlled through the use of same userid/password on both machines Very strange to me that I seem to have set everything up right since it works right away but that hours later it stops …

does mse create hidden/disguised backup files?
by Guest Gooch Mango- 0 replies

My MSE got corrupted, and I had to uninstall and reinstall it. This was not a problem. During its initial scan after installation, I began getting warnings from my firewall that three setup.exe files were attempting to access the internet from my D (data) drive. MSE is installed on my C drive. I blocked them using Windows 7 Firewall Control (Sphinx Software app). This was AFTER MSE was installed. The setup.exe files did not have any plain language maker's name, just a long alpha-numeric string as an identifier. I searched the internet for any info on these file names, but nothing was found. I searched my computer for these file names, hoping to open file location…

You'd think Microsoft would get better and smarter as time went on. You'd also think they would test and carefully check before releasing programs that cause more problems then they fix. However IE 9 is just one example of Microsoft failure to improve there products. IE 9 is garbage! Fix it or stop sending update notices. Continue reading...
