I have a win2008 storage server with many shared folders on it. When an XP client tries to access those shares from the network, the directory listing is almost immediate. When a win7 client tries to access the shares, most of the time there is a lag of 10-20 seconds before a directory listing is displayed. The same is true when trying to establish an RDP connection. I have disabled autotuning, heuristics, remote differential comp on both server and win7 clients with no effect. I temporarily disabled antivirus on server with no effect. Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks, John

Hi, I recently cleared my hard drive with a clean install to xp. I want to install the upgrade to vista but can't find the upgrade advisor (It no longer exists0 when I put the vista disk and run it, it goes thru the complete procces then it says it's not compatable. I've installed xp and then to vista twice and never had a problem. How do I get the upgrade advisor to know what programs to uninstall from xp ? Thanks Continue reading...

I am trying to use an app called Docstogo on my iPad. I have downloaded and installed the desktop version to enable me to synch some docs to my iPad. As I go thru the setup on the desktop to app cannot see my ipad which is on and on trhe same wifi network. I have checked and Bonjour services are checked in my Windows firewall (and must be working since I can synch my elibraries and the ipad). Why can' t my ipad be seen from this app? I will try to keep this short. I really hope someone has some answers for me. To explain why I'm trying to find this information, I have a Neat Scanner that I use for business purposes. After updating the software and downloading the newest version, I am in desperate need of clearing some space on my hard drive so that I can defragment my computer. I have successfully created and deployed Windows 7 images without using 'generalize' with sysprep in the past. I am now trying to update those same images but I want the default profile to save the changes I make to the reference account. I have that true in the unattended.xml. According to several online sources including microsoft the generalize switch must be used in order for this to be done. When I use generalize upon reboot I get a message saying "Windows could not finish configuring the system..." and it reboots and comes back to the same error message. Hi, Is it possible to connect to a BCM Shared Database (SQL Server 2005 Standard, dedicated) with a user that is not part of the Domain. I created the same user on the server (not the domain) with same password. I gave read & write permission to the DB I can connect to the DB using osql -E -S SERVER\MSSmallBusiness,1433 or sqlcmd -E -S SERVER\MSSmallBusiness,1433 If I try to give access using BCM Server Tool it fails. I got hit with the "Windows Security 2012" virus and ended up having to do a 2-part restore: 1. I restored my laptop to it's original state which was Win7 Home Premium I then used the "Windows Anywhere" feature and my legitimately purchased Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade disk to reinstall. Have read other posts on error "Win7 Setup Exited with 31" and the behaviour is the same for me..i verified the downloaded iso, and verified the crc of the burnt disc, the crc value is as it should be. the farthest i get in the install is right beyond the point where you select the system drive and it moves on to copying windows files, and expanding windows files etc.. once it hits expanding windows files is where the install errors out about 15 secs in before it ever even hits 1 Tried several different hard drives, RAID, IDE, swapped out memory, NIC is connected to router..tried all sorts of BISO settigns and have now re-set BIOS defaults.
