A box continually pops up with "This web browser wants to... etc and freezes the page. If I click on Don't Allow or anything else in the box nothing happens and I have to switch off the machine to carry on using. The program is supposedly Silverlight Configuration.com from Micrrosoft Systems and seemingly my security ( Microsoft Essentials) finds nothing wrong with it? Any ideas how I can get rid of this vervy annoying pop-up, please? Please not too techy as I am earlier generation. I have no idea what the Beta/Not- Beta means so I have checked NotBeta. I have a Windows 7 Enterprise box set as our KMS. When I bring a syspreped Windows 7 Professional box up – it adds to the count, but when I bring a syspreped box up with Enterprise it only does the request, no count. The only reason I tested a Professional was to see if It was going to give me the same result as the Enterprise. In order for a windows 7 box to activate with KMS it needs to hit a 25 count, yet I can’t increase the count when I sysprep Enterprise. In the answer file I have it to not skip activation, I also do a slmgr /ato to force the activation on all enterprise systems. In the Event log for the KMS I see all the times the Enterprise box “requests” the KM…

The "Antimalware" folder (contained within the folder "Microsoft Security Client") is found in both Program Files and Program Files (x86), should this be in both Program File directories for 64-bit Windows 7? I also notice that its process, MsMpEng.exe (description: Antimalware Service Executable), takes up a large amount of process power (nearly always hovering above 20% of my CPU) and memory (above 80MB at all times), and these values shoot up if I'm doing something that takes more CPU/memory such as playing a game, using Skype (often causing Skype to crash), or something with "a lot" of audio (the audio begins to skip and stutter as MsMpEng.exe consumes more CPU/memo…

This is not a simple virus removal issue. I had intended to quarantine the virus until such time as I returned to campus and utilize the computer store from which I purchased my Dell XPS 15 unfortunately, in that time the virus somehow has prevented me from booting windows, so I attempted to run the local recovery software (F8 at boot and choose to repair). I tried two methods: restore to a previous point and restore to factory. The first just failed due to some error. The restore to factory default not only failed, but when I ran it again, it claimed no factory backup exists! After restarting the computer to try again, it no longer will boot with F8. I ran into this problem a few hours ago and have been pulling my hear out. Autorepairs diagnose the problem as a problem with the partition table, but is unable to automatically fix it Ive gone into diskpart and confirmed that the partition was active. I reset the MBR thought bootrec, bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force Success on all three windows partitions manually creating the BCD initially works. I can create the store, but when i run bcdedit /import i get an error saying the store does not exist. I am desperately trying to avoid an os reinstall. I havent made any changes in the past few weeks so I dont know what could have caused this. Any suggestions w…

I got a new computer w/Windows 7 and Windows Media Player 12. I'm trying to get my overdrive account working to download audio files and need to install a security update on my media player. It doesn't automatically start downloading the file like it should. I tried going to http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp to manually do it, but with Mozilla I'm unable to select the "upgrade" button and with Internet Explorer it lets me try to upgrade just to tell me that the upgrade failed. After 12 months of trying to update OEM Win 7 to SP1 and recently trying to upgrade to Win Pro (WUA), I am giving up and assuming there is no simple answer or any answer from MS. The error on SP1 is Fail_Error:(0x80004005). On Win Pro - not successful. I`ve tried everything I could find on forums and nothing works. No scan errors. Clean boot. No antivirus. After installing (86) Windows updates for my XP Media Center edition, I'm unable to get my ethernet card to function. It functions fine BEFORE updates are installed. Unable to fix problem, diagnosis says broadcom card is "working", but unable to obtain IP address. Doing system restore, solves problem, until I reload/install updates again. Very frustrating. My company just got a new Windows 7 64 bit laptop that came with Internet Explorer 9. We need to have Internet Explorer 8 installed on the computer for certain processes we run. I looked online and can't find a IE8 install for windows 7. We have a few Windows 7 32 bit computers we got before IE 9 came out that have IE8 pre-installed on them so I know that IE8 works on Win 7. All the versions I have found will give me an error on install like, "Internet Explorer 8 not compatible with this OS".
