Sorry about the long post, and if you read it completely that would be appreciated, and even more if you have suggestions. I wrote it like this so you can see everything that has happened and everything Í've done so far, and to understand the stress hehe...Anyways: Today, I moved my laptop from one place to another, a MagicJack plugged in and also an USB for keyboard and mouse. Afterwards, my Headset stopped working, I tried resetting the PC, then the internet wouldnt work. I tried resetting again and a Microsoft update installed itself. Right before the login screen, the screen went black, I awaited patiently for an hour or so, and I lost hope and tried resetting ag…

By Paul Thurrott The nice thing about Microsoft’s Windows Store for Developers Blog is that it involves a topic that is currently hidden to us all. So every post is interesting and potentially illuminating. Such is the case with a post today called Designing the Windows Store user experience, which takes a look at Microsoft’s next big online storefront. Continue reading...

I purchased the HUP version available through my company of Office 2010 Professional Pro, I have managed to get it installed on 3 of my home PC's and laptops that I use to connect and perform work activities. I was trying to add it to a fourth and i get the message stating i have used too many installations. How many PC's am I able to install this on? Also if I need to remove it from one and add it to a new PC I just bought how does that process work? Thanks. Continue reading...

This started out as an issue trying to deploy out VM's (Both Win7 Ent and S2008R2 Std) through VMWare vCenter - they previously were working flawlessly and then after I applied a few Windows updates they stopped working so flawlessly... I eventually narrowed it down to sysprep, specifically when I tell it to unattend join the domain. It fails 9 times out of 10, and I can't figure out what specifically makes it fail/work. I've tried the same sysprep configuration twice in a row (using snapshots after deleting the computer object) and the first one worked and the second one didn't. There are no third-party tools/software in the VM that I am testing with I installed the VM, …

We just updated our Office 2007 to Office 2010 within the last 2 weeks. Within the last 3 days, a problem opening various Office programs gives us an error message "The program can't start becasue MSVCR90.dll is missing from your computer.Try re-installing the program to fix this problem". I have un-installed/re-installed, ran repairs, removed SP1 (Read on other forums that this helped), re-installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (also saw that the errors caused by this being gone or corrupt). Un-install/re-install works for short periods of time and then the problem surfaces again. The funny thing is that not all programs are affected by this. For example, I …

People want similar mobility on their PCs as they get on their smartphones. It is unlikely that your end goal is just to get connected to the Internet. Instead, connecting to the Internet is a step (or a hurdle) towards what you really want to do, like surf, socialize, or explore, and you would prefer that your PC is connected and ready for you to use whenever you want and wherever you are. We looked at the fundamentals of wireless connectivity and re-engineered Windows 8 for a mobile and wireless future, going beyond incremental improvements. This is a good example of work that requires new hardware to work in concert with new software in order to realize its full pote…

We just updated our network with all Server 2008 R2 servers, Exchange 2010, and Office 2010 Pro. We have isntalled Office 2010 on all machines and all has been working fine for the last 2 weeks. Over the last 3 days, we now are having some problems with when Outlook is launched, it hangs on "Loading Profile" and does not go any further. I have tried killing the "Agent" process that this creates as suggested in other forums. I have run repairs, and un-install/re-installs which seems to temporaily fix the problem. Most the clients are up-to-date with the Office updates. I have also un-installed SP1 on a couple machines which again works for a bit then the next time the user…

I am following the guidance in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff602181.aspx (Deploy Office 2010 by using Group Policy computer startup scripts). A word in the CAUTION section states: "You can place the Office 2010 product updates, which are applied after the installation is complete, in the Updates folder. For more information, see Office Customization Tool in Office 2010" I follow the link in the CAUTION section and it takes me to the info on the Office Customization Tool in Office 2010. There is no word or mention about downloading, installating or storing the updates in the \UPDATES folder. Where do I get the updates for Office 2010 Standard so I c…

While playing around with SharePoint 2010 over the past week I noticed the occasional slowdown of what I thought was the SharePoint site while I was using IE9 9.0.8112.16421. However, I noticed that I did not experience the same issue browsing the same SharePoint sites while using FireFox 4.0.1. Upon further investigation…I found out through Task Manager that the instance of IE9 was using more than 1,400,000K of memory with a single open tab. Turns out the site was fine…but my entire PC was being starved of memory while using IE9 on a 4GB configured PC. I am running Windows 7 x64 and I noticed IE9 was running as an x86 process. IE9 is using hardware rendering as well. I …

I am doing some testing on and end user web experience and I need to delete cookies for a specific domain. I am following steps that are successful on my colleagues machine, but not on mine for some reason. Here is what I do. 1) Go to a particular website - does not matter which one 2) Hit F12 to expose the developer tools panel 3) Under cache - view cookie information 3) Under cache - delete session cookies cookies for this domain even clear browser cache for this domain 4) Refresh page 5) Under cache - view cookie information. I expect to see virtually all cookies gone ( safe a few that will be auto generated). However, none of my cookies go away. These exact sa…

Im trying to put together my companies first Windows 7 image, we are using Windows 7 Pro x64. I followed this link here on how to set do a sysprep for Windows 7 and also im using their WinPE boot environment all seems to go well, it syspreps fine, captures the WIM image to a network share and then the reference machine reboots and works fine. The problem i have is when i have to then apply that WIM to a new machine. It applies fine but after the WIM is on the new machine I restart and it comes up with the message "bootmgr is missing" Ive managed to fix this issue on that one machine by running WinPE again then from command prompt typing "C:\windows\syswow64\bcdboot c:…
