LONG version: I DL'd a virus a month ago and I deleted it. In the process of deleting it, I deleted another important system file because: running apps like iexplorer/notepad/frostwire no longer opens them (can only use the run as admin option), I can't drag and drop files any more, my touch scrollpad thing doesnt work, and certain picture icons don't display when I adjust things with my F1-F12 keys (the speaker, brightness, wifi pictures). I wish all these answers was relevent to someone who DOES NOT HAVE A WINDOWS 7 DISK. I used to be so bold with my PC'S when I actually owned one of those but now I have 3 PC'S that did not come with that. I have an interesting mystery going on here. I have a client who has a Windows 2008 R2 server. It's pretty new and has no AV software installed (yet) and the firewall is off. Recently, a software vendor installed their software on the server. Pretty basic software for property mgt with a small database backend (embedded in the software). I have a badly infected machine that I have pretty much exhausted all options, but still keep getting Win32/Patched Explorer.exe Winlogon.exe SVCHost.exe. I have run malwarebytes antimalware, Super Antispyware /clean, Combofix, Tried to run a housecall but it kicked me out and now the network adapter is set to 0.0.0.0 so I cant get the scan to run. I am trying to find a Microsoft KB article or a website, preferably from Microsoft or a Microsoft employee, that can provide me with the proper steps to take, to conduct an OFFLINE System Restore, for Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack 3). I know the former ERD Commander would do this, along with Microsoft’s newer product, DaRT however, I believe this is also possible, via the Microsoft Recovery Console. I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910. Multiple uses: scanning, printing, faxing. Installing it I am able to scan and print, and fax, but I wan to set it up for faxing, directly from the computer. In trying to I go to the control panel and click on the (printer and faxes). It comes up with an option(s) to set-up faxing configuring components shows up. And immediately, another pop-up (insert disk). Stating, "Please insert CD labled 'Windows XP Professional CD-ROM'. I can't figure this out, if I click on an Adobe installer for pdf or flash, or windows media player nothing happens. If I click the quick start icon, the icon is highlighted for maybe three seconds and then is no longer highlighted. Upon looking at the task manager, I see the process being started and then disappearing from the list. It stays in the task manager for the same duration as the quick start icon is highlighted.
